Horror Movie
Horror Movie
Skyhooks was a popular Aussie band in the 1970s.
Unlike many others (INXS, AC/DC, The Bee Gees, Little River Band, Silverchair, Cold Chisel, Crowded House, The Seekers etc. etc.) they never looked for success in the US or the UK (or maybe they did but didn't make it, I'm not sure).
One of their hits was Horror Movie.
The lyrics tell of watching a horror movie "right there on my TV" and it's "shockin' me right outa my brain".
Some of the things happening in the horror movie include:
"the planes are a-crashin
the cars are a-smashin
the cops are a-bashin
the kids are a-fightin
the fires are a-lightin"
And "the public's waitin' for the killin' and the hatin' "
Towards the end, you realize that the "horror movie" is in fact the 6:30 News.
I couldn't help remembering this song, now 50 years old, when I watch the 6:30 News last night.
It's not even a case of nothing's changed. It's got a lot worse.

Hi Phil
GREAT post!
Haha, I'm probably one of the few non-Australians who remember that tune, although this is the first time I've seen the music video, which I love! The video is so cheesy, but it really works with the song.
Embedded in the first few bars of that Sci-FI opening is a piece of the chord progression to Bob Dylan's song "Lay Lady Lay," which I'm sure was accidental. Lol
The reddish cabinets remind me of the ones my high school band used to build, but we put heavy-duty wire mesh over the speakers to protect them from getting damaged during travel.
AC/DC is one of my absolute favorite Rock bands of all time! I was in graduate school when I first saw them on MTV, back in the early 1980's (maybe 1981). I started laughing at Angus Young in his school-boy outfit, but when he began playing his Gibson SG guitar it wiped that grin right off my face. He's such a killer guitar player!
I did like prefer Bon Scott over Brian Johnson, but Brian does a great job on vocals, too! They will be doing a limited European and nearby country PWR ⚡️ UP tour beginning in May, and they just celebrated their 50th anniversary by releasing their entire catalog on gold vinyl.
I'll leave you this YouTube video from 60 Minutes Australia, where Brian talks about how he and Malcolm tried to find the Loch Ness monster: 😎

Yeah, unfortunately, watching the news now is like seeing a real horror movie. I feel sorry for our children.
Rock On! 🤘

You're such a repository of music history, Frank. Thanks for the 60 Minutes link. What a great idea! Using fireworks to lure the Loch Ness monster.
The video is indeed cheesy, but it WAS 1974 lol.
Thanks, Phil! I've been around a long time. Haha
Yeah, the video is well done for 1974 and fits the song perfectly. 😎
