A Sad Day For Canada
Who can forget the iconic tale of the young lad working in the tobacco fields of "Tillsonburg", or the ribald shenanigans of a "Sudbury Saturday Night." A great repertoire of all things Canadian including that legendary lumberjack from the Ottawa Valley "Mufferaw Joe," "Bud The Spud," and of course that tribute to Canada's national sport "The Hockey Song."
Stompin Tom's career was almost over before he even began. People did not want to book him because of his trademark foot stomping as it was wearing holes in their carpets and it was expensive to keep them repaired. Well that didn't stop Tom, he went out and bought a square of plywood and so was born his iconic Stompin Board. The proprietors were satisfied and Tom's fans were kept happy.
Stompin Tom also had an issue with the Juno's and he returned many awards in protest that they were allowing ex-pats to receive awards that he believed should be reserved for Canadian's only. Not only was Stompin Tom a great performer and songwriter he was also a recipient of Canada's prestigious Order Of Canada. Farewell Stompin Tom, we shall all miss you. The next time we have a big thunderstorm Canadians will know that it is you stomping out yet another great concert in that big concert hall in the sky.

A nice tribute post to and iconic Canadian. I saw him live too. The audience was so rowdy! He could barely finish a song and the crowd was shouting out with requests for the next one. He will definitely be missed.
Truer words were never spoken TLeeC. Watching the news reports and the tributes from his peers still gets to me.
I was very sad when I heard this too. I grew up listening to all of his songs on 8 track tapes...over and over and over and over and over. Yes, I was an only child. :)
His songs are great and very, very Canadian! Thanks for telling a bit of his story, I didn't know how he got started. R.I.P.
Wow! 8 tracks. That goes back a day or two :-D The only concert that I ever went to was one of his. It was in Sarnia. I loved it. His "Margo's Cargo" was absolutely hillarious. He will most certainly be missed.
8 tracks were very cool in their own way and top of the line technology for the day! Most of the time people don't believe me when I say I know what they are and listened to them. But that's ok, I like those compliments.
I never got to see him live, that must have been fun!
Just kidding about the 8 tracks Stacy, I remember the hand cranked telephone and party lines. Of course that was well before, ... What do they call those things? Oh yeah Televisions. lol Oh it was a real blast, and oh yeah I forgot that I was at one other concert. I saw Hank Snow in Halifax. Many moons ago. :-D Glad you enjoyed my post

One of my favourites! I love stomping, jigging, clogging, Metis dancing and Square Dancing.
Being raised on the East Coast, I have tried my hand at clogging and Square dancing as well.
