Overseas? It has many of its own challenges.

By "overseas" I don't mean in Europe. I know many of you are in Europe, and many are in North America. Things are different behind the "Great Firewall" of China.

There isn't a day that goes by, or an hour that passes where I am not challenged by the internet restrictions where I live. Although I am an American citizen, I am living in China - the internet is not the same...and in most circumstances, the challenges are incomprehensible to most people.

When I am at my home in Florida, or in Massachusetts, I simply sit at my computer and the internet responds with every click and every keystroke...in China, the case is much different. There are moments that my internet is stalled...there are moments it is stopped, and, on occasion, I have no internet at all.

With all of these obstacles, I still manage to juggle website updates, Facebook and Google+ posts...I might need a Virtual Private Network (VPN), but I will not allow the "Great Firewall" to prevent me from making a living.

I understand that everyone has their own distractions...and I know that every distraction is real for everyone...what I am saying is, if I can muster the motivation to overcome obstacles (some of which I still don't anticipate or understand), then there really is no excuse someone outside the world of isolationism could offer that is legitimate. I have children...I have family...I have a life, and I am under the scrutiny of a heavy government...yet, I am still driving forward to achieve my goals.

Please don't let life get in the way of what you truly want...it is easy to allow "things" to get in your way...take the road that offers you challenges...take the road that will give you access to your goals.

We have infrastructure challenges here in Ecuador. Power off. Internet off. Water off. Wait and see. However, the government here is not that heavy handed. I know exactly what you are talking about and I try to accept the circumstance rather than fight it. When things are back on we go to work again and get caught up. Liked your post. Bob

You are indeed in a unique situation...I understand all too well that self-motivation is the only way to overcome obstacles we have no control over. Thank you for the comment.

Thanks for your inspirational post.

Regards,
Jerome

Thanks for sharing.

I can imagine... Haven't seen a Chinese member here so far. Canadian friend living in China reported the same. He had to use the TOR browser to access Facebook.

Living in another country has it's benefits and ill effects. The law would always support a local if I were in conflict with someone. There isn't equality before law or equal protection before law. But yes, living in a different culture can be enriching if one knows the art of living it. I've seen many from developing countries move to developed countries for a better life. Then, retiring in a cheap Asian country can be exciting for a westerner.

I bet you love it in China despite the government and all the hardships.

I wish you the very best!

Things are definitely different here...new challenges. Thank you.

Great post. It´s all about whether you respond or react to life´s challenges

I agree...each response to a new challenge is more a determining factor in the outcome than I think most people imagine.
