Comments - Offered and Received

I know comments are important to rankings...and, I know there are "techniques" for commenting so a site gets better rankings. When I offer comments on a site, I do so honestly...meaning, if I spend the time to read through an article, page or post, and then present a comment, it is meant with the best of intentions...I usually spend a lot of time reading and evaluating how I can offer the best comment based on the article...on some occasions, articles are written with out much substance...some are written like textbooks, and others like stream-of-consciousness. I really do my best to offer a comment based on the content presented. It is frustrating to spend my time trying to help others by commenting for them just to have them throw my comment away...I accept all comments...good, bad, and irrelevant...it make my posts real...and, I respond to all comments. It is my opinion if you are going to request comments, then accept them instead of disapproving them and sending a response that is less readable then the content on an undecipherable article - or, worse yet, an article that starts with a theme and ends with random sales pitches.

I guess I am just in a mood...it just seems rude to me for someone to disregard a comment because I didn't include specific keywords...I feel comments from outside the community will be less likely to fit an expected template, so it is only honest to accept all comments...if you are disapproving comments, maybe you should rethink your content.

man I really wish that more people shared you point of view, I have heard a lot about comments getting disproved over my 2 years here lol

I had one rejected last week because I gave a negative comment to a review on a product that I had actually used and found to be a rip off. I gave an honest account of my experience.

Having said that the less than 200 word article was one big sales pitch.

I have learnt...don't comment on those kinds of posts :)

Thanks for your post,

Kev

Very good advice...I guess I will be more cautious - probably best to just read the other comments, and base my actions on what I see.

I do understand your point exactly. I had a similar situation since week. But what I get to understand is that the feedback site is different from the comment site, this I was not so cognizant of. It was pointed out to me that the comments on your site influences google ranking and hence negative comments does not go well with google on that matter. I certainly did not know this before, I thought whatever the comments, I should be honest hoping that this will improve the website owners particular post.

Based on what I learned the Feedback site is what allowed for stricter scrutiny.

I understand...I fully agree with you...although I am very truthful and honest in my comments, I never "comment" in a negative respect...well, sometimes, I might agree with a negative product review, but I always try and stay inline with the author's point of view and opinion...I just use comments to carry a conversation. I mean no disrespect to anyone who disapproves my comment (I have only had one declined)...if I comment and it will negatively impact their site, then by all means "disapprove", but it seems quite trivial to throw one out due lacking keywords...the comment was actually very positive.

Its very trivial, you are indeed correct. Its like they writing the comment for you.

I haven't refused any comments yet. I hope I don't ever feel a need to. Is there a chance that you are confusing comments with feedback? Comments are meant to be positive because they go out on your site and negative has a chance of reflecting badly on your site. Feedback is different. If you want to offer constructive criticism, it should be done with feedback. Maybe you understand all that already. If so, feel free to disregard. :)

It's good advice, thank you. But I do understand the difference. Feedback, I am much more candid, and very specific on the kind of feedback requested...comments, I base completely on the content...I comment a lot...every day...using both the system at SiteRubix, and via personal requests. I spend a lot of time making sure my comments are appropriate, and a lot of time reviewing and reading the content...I guess I just feel like I wasted my time helping someone by offering a comment on their content, and they blew it off because I didn't include the "keywords" they wanted for ranking...in my opinion that sucks.

Thanks for sharing. I think this is a sentiment many of us share. I, personally, welcome all comments, good, bad or indifferent. Like you said, it keeps it real. I've done 159 comments with 96% approval rating. The disapproved rate of 4% should not be that high.

Thank you for the reassurance...I feel less like a ranting fool now, lol...it really takes me a lot of thinking and effort to do a single comment.

So do I. I usually spend close to 30 minutes reading, thinking, and commenting on a post or article. This is the reason I won't read or comment on a short post lacking content.

If someone disapproves we lose the credit for comment? I haven't commented yet...

I don't think you actually lose credit...I have yet to determine that actually. I am just ranting...I apologize, since 98% of my comments are approved. It just takes a lot of time for me to write a relevant comment...I am not that quick, and it is frustrating to have it rejected for keywords, lol.

whoops. People are crazy for keywords! How many comments have you done if you don't mind me asking?

More than 45 - I have done 45 through the SiteRubix system, and I have no idea how many from the "please give me a comment" post started by Kyle. I usually do a few everyday, either from people requesting them as they finish certain training lessons, and a few using the SiteRubix comment system.

I see - that's great!
