Google To Close Down Page Speed Service

Hey friends

Just thought I would give anyone using the Google Pagespeed service the heads up, that they are closing down the service on 3rd August 2015.

https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/service/Deprecation

This is a great shame as it was probably the best free CDN (Content Delivery Network) service available, and I have used it on my sites since its inception in 2011.

This morning I have installed Max CDN, this is a paid for service, but is looking like it is giving equivalent, if not better page speed the the Google service, but Google are also recommending some alternative options on the above web page.

Hopefully those that are using the service will not be too badly effected, or if anybody else is using a CDN they are pleased with, maybe you could add the provider below

Regards

Paul

You are welcome Christabelle

Thanks for the heads up Paul.

You are welcome Larry

Thanks Paul, I too would like to know if anyone knows of a free alternative!

I think Cloudflare is the most popular free CDN, although I have not personally used it - I always used Pagespeed

I'll have to check that out, Thanks!

Hi Paul. I don't even know what it is, but now I will investigate! This is one of the things I love about about WA. People like yourself sharing stuff. I've only been here two months and learning so much. Thanks very much for posting. All the best.

Hello Doug

A content delivery network (CDN) is service, which hosts your cached webpages, images and css files, on multiple servers all over the world

When a visitor - visits your site, the content that they see is then displayed to them, from the nearest server to their location, giving them a better user experience as your site will load much faster for them.

As you grow your site and business, you will obviously have more content and images on your site, which will eventually start to slow your site down.

A CDN will be a natural path for you to take, at that time.

I am glad you are learning, and I always pleased to help.

Wishing you every success Doug

Paul

Thanks Paul
