CAVEAT: This blog can give practical tips for those using ONE website as well.
I am probably writing about something that WA vets already know too well. Hopefully they will jump in and advise me and others who are in my situation. The fact is that there are many WAers who have multiple sites.
The Situation: Having multiple sites and the need for a newsletter subscription
I've been thinking about this for about a month now....and procrastinating and then realizing that I cannot avoid having a newsletter and squeeze pages, optin, etc. I wondered how I could have 8 different subscriptions on 8 sites and manage them all.
Caveat: I am working with a free mail chimp plugin. I know....I know...you get what you pay for. But I am not ready to spend a monthly payment on this.
Solution: MailChimp subscription is processed online at their site.
Now, this is where the WA vets are laughing at me, I'm sure. But my initial experience was with Mail Poet that localized their services to a particular website. And so, I assumed that I would need 8 newsletters and manage 8 separate subscriptions....and just the thought of this was too much. And then I explored this matter of having ONE subscription to manage all sites by working with SendGrid. But they could not give me a clear answer if they could do this. And so, I decided to try MailChimp.
Now, keep in mind that I am just trying to figure this out. But so far so good. They allow for ONE subscription online at their website. What this means is that I can install the plugin into all 8 sites and whoever signs up on any site will automatically get placed on one master list. Ok, you can stop laughing now...I'm sure you knew this. But my point is that I did not know this.
And so, I created a master list online at MailChimp. Now when someone subscribes, I am not stressed about where it's coming from.

At this point in the game, my plan is to send ONE newsletter to all subscribers from all sites. This one newsletter will have links to all the sites. There are 2 reasons for this. 1. It's much easier to create one newsletter and manage it. 2. My goal is to create an inter-relationship with all the sites. And to do that, I have to keep everyone together so that they can see the big picture. The newsletter then becomes one-stop-shopping.
Someday, I will "group" or "segment" the list (MailChimp language)
