Backup your Website Newbies

I just had an awful experience.

I received an email this morning that someone tried to reset my password to my site on Wordpress, happened about 2am, it wasn't me. :|

I then tried to log onto my wordpress site and it just wasn't working, this went on for 10 minutes but then it did finally work - phew!

But it has been a lesson to me, I haven't made a backup, what if everything had been lost..?????  All that work!!!

Should I be flattered that someone is trying to hack my site? What would they want to do anyway??

At the moment I am trying to back up Plesk but that is another story. See the Forum Post.

I also want to use a good Backup Plugin for Wordpress, any suggestions?

Have a good day!

Louise

oh creepy! the backup plugin will be relieving for sure! :)

By the way, Louise is a really lovely name... ;)

I will make sure I use Wordpress Database too, thanks for the advice.

I will heed this warning, thanks for the reminder

I use Wordpress Database backup too. I've used it for 2 years now, and I did have to rely upon it for a restore once. I love that it emails a backup to me at the same time each week. It's much more important to have the database backed up than anything else. You copy the directories once, after you've got all your plug-ins in place and your template configured. Then it's really all about keeping your database backup current.

ALWAYS back up EVERYTHING just to be safe

Hi Louise,
Well "WordPress Database Backup" is a good backup plugin but it only backs up the database, the database contains posts comments etc.

The only thing it's not going to backup is themes and any custom changes you may have made to the actually WP core files.

In regards to that email, have you in the past 2 days tried to reset the password? Only reason I ask is because the WA hosting mail server has some problems and people either don't get email or it has about a 2 day delay. (it maybe fixed now not 100% sure)
