I am Content-confused!

I am starting to think I took on a bit more than I can handle and I am already starting to doubt myself. My niche is a travel website that offers advice on the best vacation destinations for singles, couples, families and business trips. I will also be offering advice on how to find the cheapest flights, which will include: best day of the week to book, best times of the year to book, as well as the best months the year to book. I also want to offer advice on the best travel rewards cards to look into for this. This could also involve how to find the cheapest booking agencies to book vacations with. I want to feature apps that help with tracking flights and status of security lines, as well as how to avoid baggage fees/excess baggage fees, to reviews on the best hotel and airline services, cheap/best hotels, cheap/best all-inclusive resorts for singles, couples, families and business travel and best booking sites to book with. How to travel with kids or pets, best ways to pack and also best international vacation destinations for each group of people named previously, travel insurance, the pros and cons, pros and cons of all-inclusive vs. paying as you go. Top/cheap car rentals. Everything advice. I have not traveled really ever in my life, but it is something that is definitely a passion of mine to do more of with my family, but I have never known how to go about finding the perfect vacation for a amazingly, affordable price, so that is basically what I want to offer. I am having an extremely hard time breaking this all down into easily navigatable information on my website and coming up with content ideas and still am not really sure if I am completely understand the full concept of building keyword rich content. Should I just throw in the towel??

No, no and no! Don't you dare give up on something you are passionate about. The community here has given you some valuable advice. Take it one step at a time. I would love to check out your site when its done. I love to travel. Its okay to take a look at other travel sites and see what they are doing. It may help get some ideas on how you want to structure your own site. Don't give up!

Thank you for the kind words and great advice. I am still hesitant, but I will get it where I want it to be. I hope anyway. I will definitely let you know when I am closer to being done!

Awsome!

Nichole, don't give up. Travellers need you. Don't try to do everything at once. I've made that mistake so I know how frustrating and discouraging it can be. Start with what you feel is the most important.

Here's my suggestion. Make a list of the main topics you plan to cover over time. You seem to have a good idea of these already. Choose the first one or two and break them down into sub-headings if they seem to cover a lot.

Now, put yourself in the place of one of your readers, who wants to make a trip overseas but is not sure where to start. Write a post for that person discussing e.g. booking agencies. Just that. Give them the whole gen on booking agencies and what to do so that they end up with the trip they want, not something the agent is trying to sell. Talk to that person as though he/she was a friend. Really help them. Send them to the agent with enough knowledge to ensure a happy outcome.

You might prefer to start with some other topic. Whatever you choose, make the range of it bite-sized. Extend it to more than one post if necessary. There's no hurry. Then move on, small step by small step through your topics. Fill in extra topics or sub-topics along the way if you want to.

I hope this will help you to break free of the overwhelm and enjoy planning and writing your posts

Margaret

It does! I feel better, I know I am still going to get frustrated at times because that's just where the over thinking part comes into play and throws me off. I do appreciate your advice! Thank you very much.

Oh yes, you'll still get confused and frustrated. I still do so with my websites. I'm glad I was of some help. Message me if you have questions or just want to take. I like to help if I can. - Margaret

Great advice mckm!

First of all look up your topics with affiliate programs + travel industry and any other subject that would be a specific page such sad....
Destinations, flights, when to book, best travel dates, etc. write all of these keyword phrases down from keyword on WA and then plan your pages, and work on your content one step at a time. You are looking at the big picture and getting overwhelmed... Even though you are inexperienced with little traveling, your desire to can bring out your passion in your content... Any more help needed, feel free to shout

Thank you for the kind words of advice! I am going to continue working. I actually realized that I got some better topics to really focus on by simply searching in Google, "Most commonly asked travel questions" and will base my content off basically answering those questions while finding deals that deliver the answers to common travel questions. What do you think?

Yes, she has definitely got passion.

I understand your fustrstion, but the old say Rome wasn't built in a day...hang on.
I also have a problem with compacting.
You may want to build a simple page with just brief description, or a hook with a link to more information, you could work it as an on going blog or leave a question section so you can interact with your reader's.
Q AND A.
We can brain storm...I am not very skilled at running an online business, but I am at being a customer. ...
YOU CAN DO IT!

I think that is a great way to find the most sought after answers. Good job.
I am glad you feel less confused. .next your turn to find my way out..lol

I am definitely no expert at this, obviously, but I will certainly try my best to help you out as well!

I would recommend that, for now, concentrate solely on creating a couple dozen blog articles, add a couple of easy static pages (static pages are usually found using the menu; used for general information - one of my websites has a page for a glossary, for example) in the next month or two.

Don't worry about all those fancy bells and whistles for now (which sound great but usually end up being quite a lot more work than content writing). Give yourself time to get used to running a blog site first. ;)

During the first couple of months that you're only writing content, which you do have a lot of ideas for, you can also plan and write out your ideas and design enhancements on paper - this will allow you time that you need to not try to "build Rome in a day."

You can do it - just take baby steps in the beginning and allow the big picture to unfold in time.

I think I speak for everyone here in sharing strength with you to go for it and enjoy how it comes along. :) ~ Mike

Awesome advice. Thank you very much!

You're very welcome. I've been here for 2 1/2 months now and just published my very first blog article ever on one of my websites. I don't recommend waiting that long, but, after many years of doing many things without much income, the "wind in my sails" tends to be a bit calm. haha

Along with that experience, I know in my head and heart that we're in the right place here in WA. I think we have the best chances of accomplishing our money making goals better here than anywhere. Stealing a phrase, "it works, if you work it." Takes time, though. :)

That's a huge pay load you have taken on. It's no wonder your feeling overwhelmed and a bit fearful. Don't let the fear and confusion stop you. Face the fear and pick one topic and write about it for a couple weeks or months if you decide. Start thinking about all the possible topics within the topic you focused on.

If you decided to take on Travel insurance for example, break it down into possible articles.

How to find cheap rates?
What can you expect to pay?
What isn't covered?
When is cheap not the right choice.
Why but travel insurance?
What companies provide the best service?
How to travel with medications.
If the worst happens, what do I need to do?

I'm sure you can think of more (and better) topics. Become the expert on this one aspect of travel. Then you can branch out and write about other things.

Face the fear and the fear will dissipate and you will grow.

Sorry for the long winded post but I have faced this dragon before and won. Each time you win the dragon gets smaller and less threatening. He's not as big as he use to be.

I think my main issue is....where do I do my research and tie it in with my keywords? Does that question even make sense?

yeah it does, try to find keywords that are made from your questions -statements above. if they are not low hanging fruit - don't matter. just get the article written. doesn't matter if you do't post it now you have it for later.
try typing into google or ansewrthepublc - 'best travel card' and you will come up with loads of questions and statements people are asking / looking for. try using these as keywords, see the results.use the keyword tool here to see the assosiated words and look for the good ones that make sense. qsr

You have some of the topic mentioned and all You need to plan your site setting first with all the categories. Look up for travel sites to see how they design the site. You don't have to travel to write those blog. There are plenty of travelling book and article on the Internet for reference.

definitely don't throw in the towel - yes it's a lot but give yourself a few days to come up with a structure- put the various categories on post its and stick them on the wall - freezer wherever. move them around keep looing - write other ideas down stick 'em up.
or if you want it digital use xmind as a mindmap - you can change the format to help with different ways of looking at things.
start a content calendar after you get it sorted (coschedule templates) and stick to it - plan the work and work the plan - even if you get s**t loads of other ideas (add to the stickies and enter them into the plan) - stick to the plan. keep at it for a couple of months and see if it settles down.
get on face book and ask people for their holiday experiences - good and bad. ask how they chose their holiday - would they do it different.
what do they want - what is their dream holiday - get on the forums - (forumfinder.com) see the questions - organise the topics.
Write down how you would choose the best vacation - research it. does it exist? or is it just a dream?
keep writing
yes it's a lot to take on but as jude and others have said but you owe it to yourself to give it the best you can - it's tough but are you tougher than this little blip? of course you are, you WANT to do this. you said it- so get out the post its - little pieces of paper - write one sentence on each of what topics you want and stick em up - use your doors as main topics with subtopics stuck on them - make it fun!!
keep writing
have fun
phil

hi just came across this site and love the interface - i can see it with the world on it and you click anywhere to see the holidays - but get the content written before you implement it

have fun

Thank you so much for all your help!

How about writing down (with pen & paper) the menu structure first?
For example

Top Menu:
* Destinations (sub menu: all-inclusive, pay as you go)
* Travel tips
* Transportation (sub menu: car rental, flights??)
* Essentials (sub menu: insurance...)

And then start creating posts that fit under each menu... If you're going to write many posts about "travelling with kids/pets", then you could create a sub-menu called "travelling with kids/pets"

It's just an idea.....

No, not at all. Tackle one topic at a time, break everything down into little chunks. For example, make a point of writing a post today on just one thing out of that vast list. Do your KW research and then write down a few paragraph ideas. Write in short, 3-5 sentence paragraphs with white space and pictures between. Then let us know how you got on :)

See when you say it, it sounds easy, but when I actually do try and do it, ugh...whole other story. Frustrating!

Really... Please choose one first.
I had the same problems. Choose One and start writing.

Along the way, you will hone your focus. It will be easier to manage your website then.

Please. Choose one.
A small step makes you closer to your goal.
