Escalation and Deprecation 101
What in the world do these words mean? The first day of 2020 I want to teach these definitions for Wealthy Affiliate.
We can use these themes for writing, revising, prioritizing.
Before examples, I'll give an explanation of these terms. Then it will make sense illustrating in a quick story. I'd like to hear from you with more examples of planning and implementing helpful strategies.
Escalation
Escalation is not the stairs that take you here to there mehanically without much effort in this example. Far from that. It is bringing customer needs to the top of service, tabled for prompt attention.
I asked Kyle about a glitch which would not allow me to type into the live chat for Jay's webinars. For Wealthy Affiliates, we have a live coaching session each week on Friday or Saturday depending on your location. Each training is thankfully recorded in order to refer to it later. I asked Kyle to help and told me he would "escalate my request." That was a token of appreciation, as a customer, member, student and virtual citizen.
With this instance, I wanted to be able to ask questions in the live coaching. I recently bought the yearly premium membership to ensure this benefit. You cannot get this level of coaching and mentoring value Jay provides anywhere else, I have checked. My only review complaint would be that a webinar is not as helpful if other people cannot ask questions as well. I learned others Wealthy Affiliated have had the same problem and unable to type in the live chat during Jay's presentations. Frequently, we stand to learn much from other people's questions and answers to them.
Escalating requests helps serve a number of people. Now let's move onto the next concept of depracation.
Deprecation
Google does deprecate, and it sounds ⁰ sort of ummm confusing...What is the purpose of this or what does it mean?
Deprecation is a way to save space and ensure relevant information appears to people who are looking for it. Just like a car depreciates in value as soon as it drives off the lot. Functions and content can be deprecated in order to weed out the obsolete. I know it may sound sort of like a difficult BM, but that is not what we are talking about. Please hear me out.
Once a car is so old, it ends up recycled or land fill that seldom do people visit.
...Deprecated content drops off the Google map, rankings and is basically removed in order to make room for more valuable information. So, in that way it is metaphorically alike in concept of bird droppings ...falling off the Google chart but they don't splatter, they're just forgotten. No kersplat, just gone to save space.
It is NOT "defacation" Ok moving on and you can put poopsie terds out of your mind.
When old plugins are revised, they deprecate and the new version code must be updated.
The 2 terms escalation and deprecation are not exact opposite, but contrasting helps teaching in this case.
Now, to summarize this philosophy let's drive it home using both of the ideas in a sentence.
Escalating client needs can help to ensure online presence is not unnecessarily deprecated.
While some deprecation is expected and needed, with good SEO and providing consitent relevant content your online presence builds authority. And authoritative content escalates instead of deprecating. Frequently visiting admin on website and updating plugins, removing and revising old posts and revisiting keyword research is a best practice approach that can be implemented.

I still to this day have to remind myself to start my day with this first 30 minutes.

Hi Becca,
I work in a very busy Emergency Room with a large behavioral health population. I can tell you that “escalation” is the new normal.
As opposed to depreciation in this case, or loss of value, I would like to think the folks I work with do just the opposite and add much value “appreciate” to our challenging unit!
I speak of all of this only as a humorous twist on words having hidden meanings! ❤️

Escalating I was aware of, I have used it when talking to a representative and not getting a satisfactory answer. Then would escalate to the next level. Deprecate is burying something that is no longer popular. So the moral of the story is to aware of Google's popular trends, Keywords etc. or you lose.
