Your First Niche - Is it really a Passion?

When you start out here in WA, one of the first tasks you’ll have to do is finding a niche. Preferably something you’re passionate about. And the struggle starts. I remember as I joined WA and stumbled upon this task. Wow, I was stressed, confused and had absolutely no idea of what I was passionate about.Sure, when you read “Find your Niche”, it’s like “No problem”. Actually, I find it to be a huge problem. For all of a sudden, my brain was empty and I couldn’t think about anything at all, which I could be passionate about enough to use for my first niche.

Everything was wiped out. No memories on any hobbies, nothing I’m interested in, etc.It felt like years coming up with a niche (actually just a week). Since I like cooking, I thought this would be a perfect niche as I’m a hobby cook and love to experiment around to come up with new dishes and different recipes.

How To Cook Better is my first blog I’ve created with WA. This is the website I worked on through the whole Starter Training. And I was astonished, how long the framework actually took me. My weakest part was to write articles for it.

Five months later, my cooking blog experiences a form of negligence and hasn’t seen any new articles since July. Meanwhile I also started the Bootcamp and I find that niche far more interesting than my cooking blog. As you can see, what we think we’re passionate about doesn’t necessarily mean we truly are.

But it is what it is. I lost interest in this blog. What I’m trying to say is. And Kyle has stated this in a training as well. Most likely, you won’t keep your first niche around. I always thought that this wouldn’t count for me, but I was wrong. Cooking is a hobby, but through WA, I learned that this isn’t my passion. And the thought of having to search for a new niche didn’t make it easier.

Wrong again. It actually was easier and I think it’s due to the knowledge WA teaches us. There’s much more to learn here than to simply put together a website and monetize it. While we go through the training and work on our website, we gain other skills we aren’t aware of. It’s like an automated routine. Without thinking, we put more effort in our keyword research (something I never understood how it works). Writing content gets easier and faster (boy, was I suffering writer’s block) and we help people out with topics, we didn’t know a phrase about (who the hell would know what K.I.S.S. means).

There is no such thing as a perfect niche...

Needless to say. If you’re a new member and you’re facing the task to find a niche, don’t put all of your effort and time in it. There’s no such thing as finding the perfect niche, especially not the first one. Experience will come over time and most likely, your first niche will be dropped just like mine. Because you’ll be able to determine what you’re really passionate about and the interest in that new niche outweighs the will to work on your first one.

What should you do when this happens? Well, I’m not saying “Drop it and start over” but that’s what I basically did. I left my cooking website and been working through the Bootcamp. Besides the Bootcamp, I’m also working on a local business idea with a partner. And this is what I’m truly passionate about.

I’m sure the majority of us all here have experienced the same problem and I would love to hear your story. It may help the new members to not get frustrated over a niche as finding your first niche is a challenge and I wouldn’t be surprised to hear about members giving up because they struggled to find a niche.

Let’s all share our niche related problems and let our new members know, they’re not alone. :)

Thanks for reading and continued success to all of you!

Take care,
Nicole

Nicole, I love your post.

Totally can relate because I was stuck at Finding a Niche for a LONG time. Hence, I stopped for a long time. Later, I realise that I don't have to get everything right at the first attempt. It is better to start first, and the learning on the journey will help to shape the future progress.

1

Yes, that's the best way to do it. Don't obsess about these things, even though that's what we do when we are just getting started. As time goes by and you learn more, you'll get less stressed out about things and see your business in a more relaxed way.

Just keep on working on it and things will fall in place as you move forward.

1

Thank you, I thought so too. :)

1

Hi Nicole, and hmmm now you got me thinking..anyway thinking is good right? Good points, thanks :)

1

Absolutely, Papi. I always say "Think first, act second...". :)

Thinking gets half of the job done and thanks for taking the time to read my blog. Glad you liked it and you're welcome. :)

1

When I read your blogs my time is well spent :) The thinking part is - Is my niche really that good? Can I make it with my choice? I worry too much as Jonas says, haha. Still on course one,so just going to take it easy and cross my bridges as I come up upon them. Have a great day Nicole :)

1

Thinking is good but don't spend too much of it on your first niche. Take it easy, choose something you like and go with the training. As you advance, chances are your first niche is something you like but not something you're truly passionate about. :)

Along with gaining experience, you also gain the ability to dig deep in the things you're passionate about and find the niche you're really looking for. In other words, you can narrow it down to find the gap in a market!

One step at a time and I'm happy to hear that my blogs are not a waste of your time.

Have a great Sunday! :)

Nicole,I'm wagging my finger at you,Never a waste of time to read your blogs, now that I've "fussed" you,I really appreciate your advice. I must pace myself pace myself and be patient, which I have to work on! One step at a time, always foward,a stumble just means learn from that and move foward again :) May your Sunday be blessed Nicole and May you enjoy our day "off" haha, have a good one"cher" A term used in South Louisiana which is colloquial for "little one,""my dear", a nice term ultimately :) Isint "little one" liebling in German? Anyway have a good one cher!!

1

LoL...I'm used to wagging fingers, so no fuss at all. :)

Patience is a crucial part if you want success, yet one which is much harder to master. One step at a time is the right way to approach things and you got it right. Once you get stuck, don't turn around. Keep moving forward, even if it's harder to do. Once you've mastered to get unstuck, it's a feeling you don't want to miss anymore. It's feels good and is a big motivator.

"Little one" doesn't mean "Liebling" in German. It means "Kleine". A kind nickname for young girls or teenagers. "Liebling" would refer to "Sweetheart", "Darling", etc.

So much for the day off, getting used to Social Media is my Sunday Motto today...hehe

Have a good one.

I'm sending you a thumbs up :)

Good advice Nicole. Don't give up. Move on.

1

Thank you. :)

I've already moved on and enjoy working on my real passion.

1

Fortunately, with my technical background and love for computers and gadgets I did not have to think too long about my niche.
Thanks for sharing, Kim

2

I'm happy you found your passion, Kim. Many seem to struggle with it and the majority start out with the wrong niche.

Thanks for your feedback and continued success to you. :)

Keep up the good work!

Take care,
Nicole

Thank you Nicole!

I too am struggling to find a niche i can work with as i cant think of anything whatsoever since i joined despite trying to write out lists as other members have suggested. I am also very worried about being able to write about a niche if i ever find one and get everything set up. At the moment i am reading how other members got going but i think i really should be taking action to keep focused.

Hi Rob,

I can totally relate to this feeling but trust me when I say, that this will pass. Finding a niche was a horror task for me but managed to come up with one I was comfortable enough with to get started.

Whatever you pick as your first niche will be great to work with. And you've got it right. The best start is to take action and getting started. :)

Remember, you can always change and there's a fair chance that your first niche is the perfect niche for you as fellow member already stated.

It's the same with content writing. It sounds horrible in the beginning but it's pretty much like learning how to swim or how to ride a bike. Once you've got it down, you're set for life and with each article you write, you gain experience and soon you'll find it very easy to write an article - in a short amount of time. My first article I wrote took me several days, writer's block included. This one here took me around 15-20 minutes.

Just do it and forget about what, if and but. Too much thinking just slows down productivity. You always can come back later and review your work and do changes if necessary. :)

Thanks for chiming in and if there's anything I can help you with, let me know.

Much success to you,
Nicole

I see you enjoy fixing computers and walking, there should be something in there for you to enjoy writing about. I don't do so much now but when I was buying parts and building PCs I was fascinated with motherboards, processors, which was best, AMD or Pentium, alll the innards really!
What about walking equipment, I tried to buy a pair of walking boots online once and had no idea what I should be looking for for the type of walking I was doing!
Good luck and I'm sure something will come to you soon. :)

Good post, Nicole! I picked a wee bit too fast, too, but found that people like my first niche site. Like you, I then jumped into Bootcamp. Now 2 months down the road, I would change the niche site, but. . . . I may put up another one, but I need to get myself on a lesson/posting schedule first so NONE of them get neglected. Points to think about.

2

I agree, Carla. Having a time schedule is an asset to your daily work. Something I need to pay a bit more attention to as well. And with more than 1 website to work on, this can be challenging as each of the website needs attention.

I hope I get back to my first niche as I do like posting recipes, etc. Just don't see it right now. :)

Thanks for your comment. It's always good to know that we're not alone with a certain problem.

Take care,
Nicole

Good blog. :) I had no problems with my niche since I'm passionate about crafting and upcycling however, like you, I'm getting ideas for another niche. After working though the lessons then moving on to affiliate bootcamp, I can see where there might be greater opportunities in other things I'm interested in.
I think age plays a hand in this, in my 20s I didn't really have hobbies/passions I was too busy bringing up 4 kids and would have struggled to find a niche. Now in my 50s I'm spoilt for choice and almost have too many ideas!

2

Hi Kathy,

I have to agree. I think it's very much age based as well and with more life experience you gain, the more ideas/hobbies/passions you can come up with. Which doesn't make a decision easier at all...lol.

Thanks for your feedback and hitting the nail on the head with your first niche is a blessing. :)

I wish you continued success.

Take care,
Nicole
