Absolutely, we know who we are but there is no way of knowing who we can become.
Discussion of the Quote:
Indeed, we know who we are physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, socially and economically if we really take the time to know ourselves. We know our strengths and our weaknesses, our likes and dislikes, our favorites and our least favorites, our beliefs, our values, our goals and our dreams. Yes, we know them all!
However, we know ourselves now but we have no clue what we will be a year from now, five or ten years from now - in other words, what we may be.
Despite this fact, we can not be afraid to take action to become better than what we are right now. Where there is good, there is better and where there is better we can strive for best. More importantly, we have to live up to our full potential. So we have to set goals, have dreams and take continuous action to grow, change and step into all of our personal powers and realize our goals and dreams. In doing so, we just might be surprised and amazed with the person we become.
Final Thoughts:
Yes, we know who we are but not what we may be. Also, it is okay to know who we are but never cease to stretch ourselves to grow, to hope, dream and to step into our greatness and become all that we can be.
It is of paramount importance to know ourselves now but also to know that we can become more and do more. We can expand our wings and fly and even soar higher and farther. Therefore, we can become whatever we want to be even if we can never be sure what we will be, or look like. Be Never afraid to strive to see what we may be!

That was such a painful thing for me to do many years ago

Great thoughts can become a greater future! You mention near the end, "Goals and Visions." I believe there are highly motivated people who have goals and visions of who they want to be. Some think through the steps to achieve those goals and visions. And very motivated people even attach dates to when each step will be accomplished. THEY seem to know HOW to make it happen.
Isn't that what WA is calling us to when we first sign on?
Helpful is the review and upgrading of those goals and visions, from time to time, as our view of possibilities is expanded by experience. Beginners without experience have no clue what to do until they are (I) immersed in skills we never knew existed. As our "I"-site grows, it is time to review and make appropriate adjustments.
