Instead of looking back and regretting, take stock, make amends and move forward. When you spend your time looking back and regretting, you are engaging in self-centered action which is beating yourself for your past mistakes.

Everyone made mistakes, makes mistakes and will continue to make mistakes in the future. So, instead of punishing yourself for your mistakes, you should admit your wrongs, make amends to those you have wrong that includes yourself and move on.

Final Thoughts:

Unfortunately, you cannot build on regret, guilt or shame. You can only wallow in them.

“Owning and making amends for my mistakes affords me the opportunity to build on my past and integrate it. I can start doing this anytime … maybe even today.”

Indeed, since regret can do no good for you; don’t dwell on it nor wallow in it. Rather, take stock so that you don’t make the same mistakes twice and learn from the errors of your ways.
