What is a definite purpose? Simply, it is the ultimate goal that you wish to achieve in your life. What is your definite purpose? I don’t know, only you have that information or not. Therefore, “A definite purpose is something that you must create for yourself. No one else can select it for you and it will not create itself. Desire is the factor that determines it.” The Law of Success - Napoleon Hill

It is said that ninety-five percent of the people of the world drift through life aimlessly without definite purposes for their lives. Do you have a definite purpose for your life?

Why is having a definite purpose important in life? “No man has ever been known to succeed without applying the principle of definiteness of purpose.” Andrew Carnegie. There are two important reasons why one should select a definite purpose in life - These are psychological and economics.

There is a psychological reason for having a definite purpose in life. It is said that one’s actions are determined by the thoughts of one’s mind. Therefore, if you deliberately hold your definite purpose in your mind with the hope of it realization, this will permeate your subconscious mind to the point where it will automatically influence the actions needed to achieve your definite purpose.

Therefore, it is important that you choose your definite purpose with careful deliberation. Once you have selected your definite purpose, make sure that it is well-defined. You must write it down and place it where you can see it as soon as you open your eyes in the morning and the last thing that you see before you close your eyes at night. Psychologically, this will influence your subconscious mind to accept your purpose as a mandate that will dictate your actions in a step by step manner towards the accomplishment of the object that is hinged on your definite purpose. Psychologically, this known as auto-suggestion.

Consequently, because of the power of auto-suggestion, one must be absolutely sure that the achievement of one’s definite purpose will bring lasting happiness, peace and prosperity. However, it attainment must not result in hardship or misery for anyone. Therefore, to the best of your understanding, use auto-suggestion to speed up the achievement of your purpose.

Remember, once you have a well-defined purpose for your life, you subconscious mind will attract all that you need for its attainment. “Once you make a decision, the universe conspired to make it happen.” Ralph Waldo Emerson.

The second reason for having a definite purpose in life is economics. If you have a definite purpose for your life as well as a definite plan for its achievement, then you most likely will achieve success in the attainment of that purpose. Since success requires power and power is organized effort, it follows that a definite purpose which is the first step in the organizational process is vital for economic success.

Consequently, it behooves you - No! It is your duty to have a definite purpose for your life. Why? “Until a man selects his definite purpose he scatters his energy and thoughts. This leads not to power but to indecision and weakness” The Law of Success - Napoleon Hill

My final question to you is - “Do you know your definite purpose in life? Yes! No! What? “It concerns us to know the purpose we seek in life. For then, like archers aiming at a definite mark, we shall be certain to attain what we want.” Aristotle.
