A Christmas Story
As the year comes close to its final days , we are rounding the bend to the holiday we all know as Christmas. This is one of my favorite holidays because all of the lights, decorations, holiday cheer, and generations of tradition and stories.
Well this year has been a bit of a struggle with preparing for Christmas morning for my 3 and my girlfriends 1 . I haven't had a job for more of the year than I did have one , because the lack of childcare or babysitter so I have been a stay home dad for a while .
This is totally opposite of the way I was raised. I was brought up that the men work to support the family and the women had an option , work or stay home and take care of the kids and house. At the time being , my lovely girlfriend , is supporting us working as a para-educator for special needs children. She only gets payed once a month so we struggle between paychecks , and survive on me doing tattoos to get gas money and food .
My neighbors have noticed the odd amount of time I spend at home and the fact I have moved on from being single after a rough divorce . I went from single with 3 to attached with 4 and a stay home dad with 4 girls 2,3,4, and 5. They are the most awesome people . One day, about a month ago, the daughter of my neighbors stopped me and said she needed to talk to me . I was almost in tears as she told me how she has noticed my struggle and that her and some of her friends were getting together as a group and picking a family to do a sub for Santa with gifts and a Christmas dinner. She informed me that she suggested my family and the decision was made they had chosen us. She continued to explain to me that they would be getting 2 toys and a book each kid and that it wasn't much but she hoped that it helped.
I told her Thank you and that her and her friends and family were amazing people for doing this . I also told her that She had just made my Christmas one of the best ever by expressing the true Christmas spirit and helping someone in need .
This type of kindness is rarely in this day and age . I want to express a sincere THANK YOU, to anyone who has it in their heart to spread the holiday spirit and help those in need . Bless all of you , and I wish all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!

I remember many years ago (about 12) when we (myself, husband, 2 kids and a baby) were struggling and standing in the food bank line ups every week. We often wondered where the next meal would come from or how we would pay the rent, forget about make a Christmas for the kids...
One year we applied to be "adopted" to receive a hamper from a private donor but organized anonymously by the local community services group. The greatest angel I could ever imagine picked us and we got the biggest hamper full of food, grocery store gift certificates, clothes, boots, toys and more. It was the biggest pile of gifts and food in the whole room! They gave us stuff we really needed, I don't know how they knew so precisely what we needed- the boots even fit the girls. The food lasted for a few months and I've never forgotten. It had to have been hundreds and hundreds of dollars that they put out to an unknown family just in the name of helping another family that needed a hand.
To this day that gift of generosity and selfless giving brings tears up. I really wish I knew who they were (so I can thank them) but I don't. So my goal (one of them) is to do that same thing to another young family as soon as I can.

It is true , those of us who have experienced these kind acts of others, create everlasting memories of similar events. I could personally relate to these as a child growing up in a family barely even being able to be described as poverty. I remember my very first brand new bike was given to me one Christmas and many other gifts, I only remember the bike though. A wonderful family from our church provided our family of 5 kids and 2 adults an entire Christmas. Gifts and dinner too.
And as I look back now the neighbor hood we lived in had many druggies and a high crime rate . We couldn't even go to the local super market at the time, without being caught in a shootout or a robbery ! Things have definitely changed over the years, but it helped me understand that kindness is a gift from the heart and it isn't as abundant as it should be. It does not matter if you are rich or poor ! There is always someone less fortunate than you so be thankful for everything you have Also if your in a position to help someone , help them. The gift of giving is great from both ends . You feel great when you receive something , and It feels even better knowing you have helped someone. Yes my son, you have had some struggles. But somehow always manage to get through it and move on. I just love your neighbors. They are very awesome people. But most of all, I love you and my grand daughters so much. The past year has been an amazing year for preparing us for new beginnings and making room for more learning. I love you and thank you for sharing this with me.
