The Art of Multi-Tasking!

I'm setting here at my "Home Office" desk, with 3 monitors in front of me, multi-tasking!

Between my "normal" full-time job as a Data Scientist for a Fortune 500 company, The Wealthy Affiliate Community, Blogging, and Affiliate Marketing, my day stays pretty busy.

I can't help but wonder, if the multi-tasking I do during the day, is effective enough for me to commit to each of my professions a full 100% of what I should.

How many of you do the same...?
Do you sometimes feel like you are spreading yourself too thin?
What tactics do you use to multi-task more efficiently?

Being successful on-line requires a commitment of time to your future... But, I know that my full-time job pays the bills and provides me with the benefits like healthcare, insurance, and other benefits.

It's difficult to carve out enough time to complete the training, tasks, and stay involved in the WA community.

I keep moving forward and devote as much time as possible in the hope that one day... the on-line business will become successful enough that I can reduce the multi-tasking and devote full-time to my future!

Please share your ideas for time management and multi-tasking.

I feel the same way.
cheers,

I felt there were probably a lot of others that were experiencing the same "overload"... Hence, the post.

If you have any great tips please share them.

I am a creature and victim of multi tasking. The problem I found is that I have difficulties working on one thing at a time for long. My mind always wonders off, I get bored very quickly, and distracted very quickly.

I discovered back in high school that I did better in exams when I had an interesting fiction novel with me even throughout the exam time. I would read academic work for an hour or two, or a chapter and then get back to my novel for a chapter. I got more done and I drastically improved my performance than when I concentrated on academic work.

Same with work, I do better when I have multiple, usually unrelated activities that I am doing. The moment my mind is distracted from one task I move to the next and later get back to what I was working on. I get more done. Sometimes some work fall through the cracks so I try to maintain task tick lists to keep myself in check.

That's just me. One thing at a time doesn't work for me.

That's very interesting that you don't get distracted and loose your train of thought moving between different subjects areas so frequently. Especially with exams or studying!

Thanks for the feedback and taking the time to share your insights on Multi-tasking!

I tired to set up employees so they did not have to multitask, at least in terms of several tasks that take judgement or attention to complete. When someone cooks are huge meal they multitask. There is nothing wrong with photocopying something while talking on the phone, but answering an email while talking on the phone is not a good thing to do.

I do multi-task when the tasks lend themselves to doing so.

I have found, like most people, it is hard to blog while talking on the phone. I have to stop blogging long enough to have a conversation with the person on the other end. Even when I have a good train of thought going!

I always try to keep an overview of all the tasks... it helps me to keep in mind a plan of what I have to do.
I make some quick notes if a good idea crosses my mind and I immediately go back to what I was doing before... this helps me to stay focused - and then I try to finish what I began...

But this sounds easier as it is... :)

I keep a "To Do" list for the days tasks that I want to get done... But the list is not segmented by job... Maybe I should try that approach.

Thanks

Multi-tasking is hard but I spend a certain amount of time at each area and then move on.

That's the approach that I am taking... Seems to be working the best!

Thanks for the advice!

I always got things done quicker and easier when I'm using the formula of "One thing at the time".. Thanks for sharing !

Pat

I try that approach too.... I devote a set amount of time, say 1 hour, and then focus on one task. It seems to work well until I get a phone call or disruption that causes me to redirect my attention.

Personally, I think multi-tasking is overrated. If I spend 3 hours doing three things, I get less done than if I spent 1 hour each on three different things. But hey, if it works for you, more power to ya.

I follow an affiliate marketer, Maland Darras. He did a video once where he talked about simplifying his desk. He got rid of everything that wasn't essential (including the extra monitors) and went to just the laptop screen. So he only focused on one thing at a time. His campaigns were more successful after he did that. He emphasizes that it could have just been a coincidence, but regardless he feels that his time is more effective.

Interesting... I would like to see the research data on that... The data Scientist in me coming out.

Thanks for reading my article and leaving me feedback!
