Embracing Your Creativity Activity

Creativity doesn't want to be caged up and locked away. It wants to roam free and soar. It wants to explore and learn. It wants to see new things, feel new things, and try new things. Children are very in tune with their creativity and as we grow older, we can lose touch with that side of ourselves. We are put into strict routines and many people feel that they need to put that part of themselves away to be grown up. We have so much every day stress that it can be difficult to relax and just let our creativity flow. Creativity is a fantastic gift that we all have and can use. We just need to nurture this natural ability.

Yesterday, I talked about creativity and I said that everyone is creative. Today, I am going to give you an activity to try. This might be a fun and interesting experience. Think of it as meditation for your creative side. Are you ready? Nope, I am not going to tell you to draw something. ha ha! Do this for about 10 minutes and yes, this is going to sound like a weird activity.

There is a rule. This is the rule for this activity: Negative opinions towards yourself during times of creativity are not allowed.

1. Open your internet browser. I want you to search up the word "marshmallow".

You are going to get a lot of results for this search. Clear your mind of all of the work clutter and just look. Absorb all of the different things that you are seeing. Notice the images and the colors. Look at the textures and think about how they would feel if you could touch them. Imagine the flavors and the smells. You can click on some links and read if you want. Otherwise, just absorb it for a moment.

2. Within a few minutes, you should start getting ideas. You might have a question that comes into your head. You might have a memory. You might have a visual. Whatever the first things is that comes into your head is, search it. Then absorb what you see. The good, the bad, whatever is there.

3. Do this a few times. After 10 minutes, come post what subject you ended up on. Did you stay in an area about food? Did you end up looking at car accessories or clouds or puppy dogs? Where did you go 10 minutes after you searched marshmallows?

4. Now, you have absorbed a ton of energy. Your creative mind has probably gotten to see new things and learn new things as it roamed around the internet. You will need to release that energy and allow your creativity to do its thing. You can pick up a pencil and paper and just doodle silly shapes if you want to. You can go cook a meal or bake something you really enjoy. You can go exercise or go for a walk. You can go write whatever comes to mind. You can do anything that you want that will allow your creativity to just wander and explore. It is going to want to let the things it saw sink in. This is the time to allow your creative side to speak to you and through you. So, you need to let your mind be clear of interruptions. There is no judgment allowed here. This isn't about if you are good or bad at something, it is about embracing that creative mind that you have and letting it learn and play. If you have an insecure side, it is not allowed to play this game..send it off to its room because this is not their time. Do this for a few minutes or for as long as you want to.

The more you allow your creative mind to wander and explore, the easier it will be to use that side of you. But you must embrace it first, then you must accept and nurture it. Not every idea will be good, and that is okay. Try not to punish your creative side for having ideas even bad ones. Your creative side will fail and succeed and you will need to be supportive to yourself when either of these things happen.

Take time every day to just let your creative side absorb the things around you. The phrase "Stop to smell the roses" comes to mind. This is exactly what you need to do. If you are smelling roses actual roses really take it all in. The colors, the texture, the shape of the leaves and petals, the feeling when you touch the rose, the sounds that are around you, and just absorb it all.

There are many ways to nurture and embrace your creativity. This is just one way and you can make up your own ways, too. Come back and let us know if you learned anything new from this activity and if you had fun doing it. I hope it was relaxing and helped your mind wander a bit.

Have a great day everyone!

Spoiler Alert:

This small activity teaches a person how to access their creativity through a word and all of their senses. Then teaches the creative mind what it is supposed to be doing with that energy. It starts the pathways in your brain by accessing every sense that you would normally use along with the language part of your brain.

Through repetition, it will make it easier to access that creativity and actually use it. This helps bypass the "what do I do?" struggle. People can learn to use one of their senses or even just a word to bring their creativity to the surface if they get stuck.

Yes, there was an analytic reason for this activity, too. lol. Did you notice when you did the activity?

Bookmarking this one to try when my mind is back fully, Angela! I'm just getting over being sick.

Try this when you feel better. I hope you feel better soon! Get plenty of rest. :)

Thanks, Angela! I have been doing exactly that, my friend!

That's great, simple exercise. When the we all around we used to melt marshmellows for snow when we made gingerbread(graham cracker) houses.

That is a great story! From there you could go many ways. Just an example:

Snow - How to make fake snow, What is fake snow used for? What causes it to snow?, etc. This one word could lead to weather associated searches, holiday searches, and craft searches.

Gingerbread Houses - How to make gingerbread, what ingredients are in graham crackers, the history of gingerbread houses, etc. This word could lead to baking searches, holiday searches, and history searches.

Each of those leads to even more searches and gives you a much larger group of things to access for your creative mind to use. :D

Thank you for trying the activity! I hope it helped. :)

Mydeas,

My mind reverted back to a friend's campout experience in Chile.
I researched the word campout and came upon a book by Ernest Hemmingway's book called Camp Out.

I never knew he wrote this particular book.
Thanks for the exercise.

However, I am really behind schedule due to a computer glitch. I am using an older version laptop, so I have limited ability to navigate the web right now.

I love creativity. My sister is a commercial artist and as teens I watched her design cartoon characters.

By the way, my dear, whether you are aware of it, art and creativity are trending on Pinterest and other platforms.

I am short on my internet skills, but I love your ideas.

Keep trending kiddos.

You got what it takes to make it big in this affiliate marketing business.

Thank you Rachele! That must have been fun to have a campout in Chile. You went from marshmallows to books, well done! That is exactly the point, to find more from the one word. I didn't know he wrote a book called Camp Out either. Interesting.

I understand computer glitches....they always set me back, too. You can do this without the internet. Just choose any word, something very simple and common that you know. Remember everything about it and let your mind wander and find associations that will lead you to other things. You could do the word "wisk" if you wanted. How does it feel in your hand? It should lead to a cooking experience, which will lead to other experiences.

Thank you so much for your support and for trying this activity! Cartoon characters are so much fun to create! I hope your sister is doing well and enjoys every day of being a commercial artist!

Btw, you have an interesting niche. I looked at mybluegenes.com and you have some interesting stuff on there. I want to look at it more this weekend when I have less people talking in my ear while I read. ha ha!

Thank you again. Have a fantastic weekend! :)

Mydeas,

First, I love your play on words in your title. This is very creative. Artists have incredible talent. Being creative is very therapeutic. I participated in a vision board activity online. It was a very positive experience.

Second, I also enjoyed a T-shirt designing class in my online Zoom group prior to joining the Wealthy Affiliate community. It was a lot of fun.

Although we do get pretty busy completing the WA training, level by level, lesson by lesson, we also have to take time to be creative.

Whether we create by vision boards, designing T-shirts, painting, ceramics, poetry, through dance or music, or planning a garden, creativity is a part of our birthright. We can do this in a variety of ways.

That's why I love art.

I am planning to write a book someday. I know that I will need a book illustrator. Guess who will be at the top of my list? You got it.

Let's stay in touch.

I am sorry for the late response. I have been a bit under the weather. I absolutely agree! Creativity is very therapeutic, it helps you see possibilities. I couldn't imagine not being able to see possibilities.

Art is everywhere, it is amazing some of the art that people can create. Nature itself, provides so much art in the world with the fantastic landscapes and colors. I don't go to galleries or collect art, but I love seeing it in the world we live in. I am amazed by some of the art they do for video games. That really takes skill and the detail is amazing in some of them. They pay close attention to movement and texture, it is just really amazing what people can accomplish if they have the tools and use their creative mind.

Thank you so much for your feedback! It is so nice to see people who appreciate art and creativity. :D

Have a great week! We will definitely stay in touch. More when I am not under the weather. ha ha! :)

Oh yess!!! that real creativity - all the best
