Changed My Username!
I decided to change my WA username from Mucky123 to JamesLM for reasons that you can probably guess for yourself.
The first name sounds a bit childish and the numbers make it look a bit unprofessional. So why the heck did I go by that name in the first place?
Way back at primary school, I used to have the nickname 'Mucky' and for some reason I remember liking it - but somehow I don't share that same attitude now.
So when it came to signing up for online games and so on, I went by this name and just stuck a few numbers on the end because it was always taken and since I've used it for pretty much everything.
Thankfully it's just me that can see the name in most cases, but I've had it at WA for over two years now - and it had to go haha. So this is the new name, just to let all of you know that had known me by my previous one.
Besides, as I connect with the likes of yourselves within WA, would you be more likely to take me seriously when I use a kiddies game name as opposed to my real name? I doubt it.
Don't get me wrong, usernames that aren't your own name can still be great - especially for branding purposes. A couple that spring to mind here at WA are Labman and OnMyOwnTerms and there are many others.
The question of your username within WA might sound like a pathetic subject, but it's actually a lot more important than you think. When you interact with people in chat, most people are going to talk to you and remember you by your username - not everyone is going to make the effort to go fishing around in your profile for your real name. If you have some cheesy username, their initial impressions of you probably aren't going to be great.
Also, as you start to bring in referrals to WA, having your own name can be great for building trust with them. You want to be known in WA the same way that you are on your website, so that they know you're the same person.
So that's just my thought for the day and I hope you're all enjoying your holidays if you have them!
Oh, and Merry Christmas :)
~James
P.S you can only change your username ONCE within WA, so choose carefully!
