Low Competition Keywords
I have been doing a lot of research on how to find low competition keywords. I have two niche websites up and running at this point.
I have come to the conclusion that I may not rank with my aromatherapy site due to the competitors that have been in the field for way longer than I have. And, as it turns out, I am o.k. with that. I will still add content based on low hanging fruit, and that will be enough for me.
As far as my coffee site goes, I think I can rank with this one and make some monetary gains with it. I just need to refocus my content a little and it will be great!
Now, back to the low competition keywords. In my lengthy research I am coming across terms such as Page Authority, Juice Links and CPC (cost per click). I am also looking at the top 10 sites in Google based on the keyword to see if any of the sites are eCommerce, forums, Q & As and other niche sites. Looking at these will let me know if I will be able to rank on the first page.
I would like to know if any of my fellow WA'ers have had any experience with these things. I am finding A LOT of training on the topic. I haven't seen anything on Page Authority or Juice Links here at WA. I am assuming this is because WA's training is niche based. Interesting......
I am aiming to find a low competition keyword (and then many more after) that will rank quickly and have a monetary benefit, even if it's only off of Adwords clicks. The process is a little lengthy, but if it works as well as I am led to believe, it will be worth it.
Please give me your thoughts. Also, if you have any questions, I believe I may have some answers on the topic (although I'm still learning).
Many Thanks~
Lindsey

I am guessing, that training here couldn't possibly cover all methods of research. We are given tools to build a website, but we are also free to do additional research on our own apart from WA
You're right Gordi. Just thought I'd see if anyone has had any experience with these things.

It's nice to get other "training" ideas on things. I am at the point of delving into some of the seed keywords I came up with. My first one is looking pretty good, but I don't want to go full speed with it until I compare it to others. We'll see where this new process takes me. If you have experience or additional thoughts please pm me. Maybe we can compare notes. Thank you!

I think the process of comparing apples with apples rather than pears in research is sometimes overlooked and is both smart and essential to do.. There may be a lot of competition for keywords at first look, but if your site is offering something different and you can rank it then you stand the chance to get conversions- provided you have judged the market right.
Low competition keywords have to be balanced with the longer term hard to rank ones or the bounce rate sky rockets. Balance and all that..
Analysing the competition looking at backlinks and keyword profiles is pretty absorbing actually.
Got a bit carried away with this reply, but I like your methodology and processes.
I wish you all the best.
Thanks. I believe the process is going to be quite lengthy. But in the end, it could really pay off. I'll keep y'all posted on the pros and cons of the steps. Thanks again.

Update: I believe I have found a perfect low competition keyword. I checked the top 10 sites using this keyword. None of them are using the exact keyword in their pages. Good sign. Also there is another niche site in the top 10 which tells me Google will rank a niche site with this keyword. I also checked the competitor's page authority and domain authority and back link total, all average but there are a couple on the low side. The CPC is $2.06, which is awesome.
All in all, I think I have found a winner. My next steps:
1. Buy a keyword rich domain
2. Prepare my home page article with the keyword I'm focused on.
3. Write another article with a keyword that has a good search volume, and average competition.
4. Focus will also be towards on-page optimization
5. Site goes live
6. Work on getting back links
7. Research 5-15 more niche related keywords with an average search volume of 300 per month.
8. Post more articles
This should be a good start. I'll be adding affiliate links and adsense and all the other necessary things. My goal is to get ranked on the first page of Google within 60 days.
I'll let you know how it all goes.

I am both encouraged and discouraged by this information. Encouraged because there must be tools you used to do this work. Discouraged because I obviously have a lot of work to do on my site. I realize one month of uptime is very little, but I'm getting no rankings and no traffic at all. I thought the keywords I was finding with Jaaxy were pretty low competition, but when I use a couple of them in searches Google comes up with literally millions of results. What tools have you been using, if I may ask?
