The Knowledge Economy is Being Dismantled

"Knowledge is Power” is Dead

What used to be scarce is now infinite:

  • You don't need a finance degree to understand budgeting—ChatGPT can teach you.
  • You don't need a marketing team to run an ad—AI can walk you through the process.
  • You don't need years of coding to build a working app—no-code tools and AI do the heavy lifting.

This used to be how we earned our money as freelancers.

“I know something you don’t, and you’ll pay me to access it.”

But now?

Everyone knows what I know, or can learn it in 3 minutes.”

- ChatGPT

That’s huge.

The Value of Knowledge Has Been Destroyed

You know how we’ve always been taught “Knowledge is Power”?

You’ve said it. I've said it. We’ve believed it. It fueled entire careers. It was the reason we went to college, studied late into the night, and followed the step-by-step formulas to success.

A Bullet Train of copper and silver speeding through the tunnel

This hit me like a speeding freight train.

Knowledge is no longer scarce. It’s no longer exclusive.

And that means having it no longer infers power or influence or money.

We now live in a time where anyone, anywhere, can pull up ChatGPT and ask:

  • “How do I build a blog?”
  • “What are the best affiliate programs?”
  • “Write me a business plan.”
  • “Explain SEO like I’m five.”

Boom. Instant answers.

What once took us years to master is now available, easy to understand, and provided in seconds… for free.

The Illusion of Competence

The Illusion of Competence

At first, using AI feels empowering. SEO-compliant blog creation has become fast and easy, and a two-hour evening pastime while you are watching TV. I just got another post created. One post done. Maybe I’ll crank out another before I lose interest. A couple of keyboard clicks, a couple of minutes pass, and a new post has been minted. It's time to polish this one. Interest waned, so the polishing can wait until tomorrow.

But here’s what you don’t realize in the moment:

AI makes you feel like you know what you’re doing… even when you don’t.

That’s where the trouble begins.

  • You’re not really building a blog.
  • You’re producing content without building clarity.
  • You feel productive, but you’re skipping the strategy, the depth, the connection.

It’s progress without purpose.
And over time, that gap becomes obvious.

I’ve spent the last two years helping people find a blog niche they can actually build, love, and sustain. And the #1 problem I see today?

It’s not a lack of information.

It’s this:

They don’t know what they don’t know.
And AI makes it dangerously easy to skip the thinking part.

People want to copy what looks good.
They build content fast.
Then they burn out even quicker.

AI is Misleading

AI doesn’t lie on purpose. But it does sound confident, even when it’s wrong. It delivers fast answers, not always the right ones. That’s why discernment, application, and alignment matter more than ever.

AI can assist, but it can’t decide what’s true, what fits you, or what’s worth building.

Discernment - The ability to tell what matters and what doesn’t. AI will give you answers, but it won’t tell you which ones are right for you. Only you can cut through the B.S. AI doesn't have a lie detector, yet.

Application - Turning ideas into meaningful action. Knowing something is useless if you don’t know how to build with it. AI can give you the blueprint, but only you can swing the hammer.

Execution is still a human sport.

Alignment - Choosing what fits your skills, values, and long-term energy. If your blog isn’t rooted in who you are, it won’t last. If you chase someone else’s niche, you’ll burn out in their lane.

Your blog should feel like home, not a hustle.

You & AI - You Are First, Not AI

AI WinsI am on a kick to get everyone to stop using AI & You. We are not subservient to AI. We are mastering the tool that is AI. Off my soapbox.

In the AI era, your edge is no longer access to information. It is having the clarity to choose what matters, the execution to act on it, and the fit to build something that lasts.

It’s not about knowing how to start a blog. That’s everywhere.

It’s about knowing which blog is yours to build and why.

That takes something more than AI. That takes experience, honesty, process, and a little help from someone who’s been there.

💬 My New Truth

If you’ve been following my journey here at Wealthy Affiliate, you know I’ve been focused on building a process that respects the individual.

I call it The Amazing Niche Master Process.

It doesn't start with a list of trending topics.
It starts with you—your lived experience, your voice, your unique path.

And here’s the truth, I’m now putting at the top of the food chain:

AI will not replace you. But someone who has mastered AI will.

If “knowledge is power” is dead, then what replaces it?

Mastery.

Not just mastery of tools, but mastery of yourself.
That’s what gives you staying power. That’s what builds income in retirement. That’s what keeps you from quitting when the hype dies down.

AI Eliminates the Need for KnowledgeAI Eliminates the Need for Knowledge

🙌 For My Fellow WA Members

We’re lucky. We’re in a community that values learning, sharing, and testing real ideas and not just riding trends.

So here’s my takeaway, I want to leave you with this:

Don’t chase information. Own your process. Master yourself. Learn how to use the tools, but more importantly, learn what you’re building and why.

Because in this new landscape,

You don’t need to know everything!
You just need to know what matters to you.

Thanks for reading. As always, I share what I learn. And this one?

It hit deep.

If you're curious, the unabriedged version is over at Setting Points, and I’d love your feedback along the way.

This is amazing read Mrdon1, I like your sites, I will learn from this

1

This sums it all up: "AI will not replace you. But someone who has mastered AI will." Thanks for sharing this MrDon.

3

And I spent the weekend creating a no-code app.

Release 1 is here

I liked your boomerblogger on FB

1

Why, thank you.

I am working it all in my couple of hours a day.

Don

2

You hit a nerve here Don1, I am trying to walk threw process for marketing, no coding tools, AI doing the heavy lifting, ChatGPT doing the teaching Thanks Don for this post I learned from it.

2

Interesting fact, I am doing the same. I have the no code Web App functioning, just not the way I would like it and have been running iterations of "beautification", most of the afternoon.

3

I totally enjoyed reading this article that you put together, we must Master AI and not let it master us and yes, it's important to think because you can't just do work without a thought process. Thank you so much for this much needed article and reminder of our goal.

1

Thanks for taking the time to read this piece this weekend. I have been on a roll. This is the third piece, related to the topic. Have you had a chance to read the first two?

I think there is some truth to this. Just as there was truth that when computers cost less than $1000 and visual basic came out, programmers were marginalized because everyone had access to computers... it just changed.

I think just because you have access to the information doesn't mean you know how to use it. Imagine you woke up one day and there was a library next door open 24/7 with a librarian always on duty.

You're still missing a component. What question to ask.

As I posted elsewhere, Geoffrey Hinton predicted that the first job to go would be the radiologist. Because the combination of ML and AI would be able to diagnose from images so much better than a human. In fact, the opposite happened. The Mayo Clinic has increased their staff by 40%.

It really comes down to this. We won't be replaced by AI, but by people who know how to use AI.

2

That’s what I was thinking too. Even though we have access to instant information, not all people will understand and know how to apply the knowledge they find. Most will require a deeper connection to help form a new mindset to actually implement the knowledge for practical use.

3

You nailed it!

"I think just because you have access to the information doesn't mean you know how to use it. Imagine you woke up one day and there was a library next door open 24/7 with a librarian always on duty."

Prompting is the new superpower. We won't be replaced by AI, but by people who know how to Master AI.

Learn to frame your prompt properly. I am sure you are extremely familiar with GIGO (Garbage In -> Garbage Out).

The same is true here.

But if you only post "how to" -> AI will eat your lunch.

You need to counter with the Why, as in why is this relevant?

We will master this tool, which is AI, and come out stronger for it.

Thanks for reading.

Steve,

It is that new mindset that we as a community need to foster. Why are we blogging? What pain point have we encountered that we want to solve? AI has the How To sewn up, we need to frame the problem in such a way that we can couch AI solutions into our story.

Doing this will have people believing our approach is best. Hence, the following ensues.

Hope you have pieced together my 3 posts.

This is me working on the 3-day weekend!

Cheers!

2

Absolutely. That's what I also wrote on Kyle's blog where he asked if teachers, lawyers and accountants would become redundant. No, they won't, because we need people who can interpret and use all this information. Yes, it's people who know how to use AI who will dominate.

2

Programmers were made redundant in the late 50's when they weren't needed to hardwire computers together because we had assembly code. Who were then made redundant by COBOL programmers, ad nauseum
