Intention
Intention
Intention is something intended, an aim or plan.
What is your intention?
Everyone has an intention. When I worked for a grocery chain,my first intention was to get promoted. When I got promoted to Management, my intention was to become a Store Manager. However, I realized not all the managers want to get promoted. During my first 3 years, I did not know why they were not keen to get ahead. Was it due to fear? Could they not handle the responsibilities? I guess there were many reasons why they didn't want to move up the corporate ladder. Maybe I was too naive at the time.
I think it was during my 5th year of management, I realized climbing the corporate ladder wasn't really for me. My father pushed me to accept the promotion that was offered over and over. I was working the graveyard shift from midnight to 8am. Despite a set schedule and having holidays off, I would still have to work at Midnight. My management position was the only hourly paid. The promotion was to a Grocery Manager which would be a salary position. Since I would now be paid salary, it meant working longer, more hours and yet getting less pay. Being the lowest in seniority of the Grocery Managers, I would be working every holiday in exchange for higher promotions. It equaled to a whopping $.25 an hour increase.
It was a demotion rather than a promotion once you factored in the hours worked!
I was one of the managers that didn't want a promotion lol. I also began to notice it wasn't about how hard you worked. I started to see good Managers getting passed up for promotion. I guess it's like that in all big Corporations . If your immediate boss doesn't put in a good word or push for you, you get lost in the shuffle.
As I mature in life, my intentions have changed. It is now my goal to motivate and encourage people to be the best they can.
Today is day 13 of reaching out and leaving a positive message to people

Hello MMatsuo, nice motivational post! I'm a newbie in WA. You are the first person to whom I am writing a comment here. Glad to join in this wonderful community. :)
Hey Donis,
I am sort of new myself, let me know if you need help with anything. I may not be the best at the technical stuff but I can try.
If you ever need the emotional lift, I can provide that anytime!

MMatsuo! You are truly an inspiring person, I also wish you the best of luck. It's unlucky that you fell into the 'corporate' trap, but what a change you've made!

Marc
Thanks MMatsuo, you are a true inspiration to all. Hope all is well with you as well and Best of all things in Life to you.
Same thing with me. I was a manager for a large supermarket chain in upstate NY and to go higher up the food chain was not conducive my my mental well being.
Stephen,
You know exactly what I am talking about.
All the supermarket are the same
Thanks,
Marc
Hi Marc,
Yes intention as you define it here changes over time, with new information and also as you grow and realize what is important and what is not (for that moment anyway, 5 years from now that may again change)...
It is good that you did not hold to your earlier intention or that of your father, rather using critical thinking to determine what your intention should be...And act on that rather than the outdated ones from another earlier period ...
May it be the same here for you here my friend, I would like you to realize all of your intention regarding the affiliate online marketing business, and have even more time for other things like critical thinking! Good on you!!
Cheers!!
Dave
: )
Thanks Dave! Exactly, I have, like a lot of people changed my intentions many many times. As we grow older or situations change, so many things can change our intentions.
I know for sure I intend to stay here at WA for a while. I am inspired by so many people here and I can't see that changing anytime soon.
Thanks for being one of those that inspire me!
Marc
Hi there,
I agree with what you said about going form hourly to salary. It's often sold with a position as a perk, as if you could get paid the same and have the chance to leave earlier (when the job's done), instead of having to get the hours in. It always works the other way around. lol. At least it has for me in the past. Great post.
Thanks Brian!
Yeah for me too. I actually don't mind putting in the hours for my benefit. I have worked for too many big corporations, and once you leave the hourly scale your kind of screwed.
Funny though I was working in Singapore, which all full time is salary. Works are required to work 44 hours, anything more is overtime. But management you get no OT.
