What held you back?

For as far back as I can remember, I have wanted to start my own business and live life the way I wanted to live it. But, I was always afraid. I am now 41 years old and finally decided to make the jump.

What held me back all those years? I didn't have the self confidence to get started. I didn't think I could do it. If you want more details, you can read my About Mike page on my site.

Also, I thought I needed a lot of money to get started, which I never had. So, I thought I was destined to "just make ends meet". Plus, I never had the support I needed to go for it. It took me this long to figure out that I just need to do it and these days, it doesn't even cost a lot of money to get started online. So, what do I have to lose. And, with Wealthy Affiliate, I have all the support I need.

I know I am not alone.

What held you back?
What were your fears?
What made you decide to make the jump?

Please share.

Your friend,
Mike

I'm not sure it was something that was holding me back as much as it was certain things that happened in my life that put me where I am now! My only regret is that I didn't find it sooner!

I can relate to that. Thank you for commenting. I wish you great success!

Same to you! Thank you!

My problem is I don't hold back enough. I really get into something and go gangbusters. Then something else comes along and away I go in a new directions. I am trying hard to stick with one topic.

I personally believe the great unknown for most is "success" not failure. All have failed at something since outgrowing diapers, we know what failure feels like. Now success is another story;

Just how is it defined, what are its parameters?

I have started several times and always found a reason not to follow through, something short of failure, something far short of success.

Looking back I believe the absolute unknown of success is what held me back, yes this is what really scared me. The greatest unknown is usually behind the greatest fear.

The "GREATEST UNKNOWN" for most is success!

I agree with that for the most part. But, growing up, I was not allowed to fail. Of course I did but, there were consequences. My dad expected perfection. I explain this more in the page I linked to above. That made it tough for me to take risks. I now know that dad meant well, he just may not went about it the best way. He just wanted me to always do my best at whatever I did.

For me it was just laziness. Now I made the choice to commit and buckle down to get my wife and I out of debt and start saving for our [future] children's college or whatever other endevour they choose. I recently started an LLC!

Thank you for sharing.

I thought about the LLC also but, I am going to wait until I start bringing in a little income first. I am not even sure what it costs. I'm sure it isn't cheap though.

it all depends on what state you are in. It only cost me $125 to file and the Federal Tax Id (used for banking and such) was free from the IRS.

I recommend this site to learn the ins and outs before filing. The guy does try to sell is service but compared to LegalZoom he's cheap. (I spent about a week learning all I could and did not have to use his paid lessons)

Jaron, thanks for the shout out! We've actually pivoted the business model mid-2016. All of our courses are now 100% free and we teach in all 50 states. Awesome you were able to put all the pieces together though, just based on the initial videos. Hit me up if you ever have any LLC questions :)
