At least get your site functioning on Google and Bing etc...

Just curious... Struggling with the details of building a functioning site?

Thanks in advance.

I found the instructions in Course 1 pretty easy and quickly did my first 3 pages etc. The content came easily for me also. Where I struggled a bit was Re-sizing images, linking, and making banners.
I just typed my problem in the 'Need help' box at the top and everything I needed I found the info there.
It does take time to do all the things though...
I think learning the 'building a website' skill is as important as any of them here so I'd continue to try it for your self.
David

Thanks David. If you look to my reply to Mark Tait it shows what I am having difficulty with. I keep getting these random emails saying my site has errors. Have you experienced this? If so what did you do about it? Thanks! Kate

Ah..I didn't read all the way down..sorry.
It seems like your problems started with a switch to Yoast?
First thing I would do is go back to all in one SEO and see if the problems continue.

Thank you. And yes all my issues started with switching to yoast. I like yoast but I may have to switch back. We shall see I will work on it tomorrow. Thank you again for your help. Kate

Hi - just to reiterate - Yoast isn't the problem - if you like the way it works, then stick with it.

Your website and email are already out in the open - so no matter what plugins you use, you'll get these types of email from now on.

You just need to get used to them, recognise them, and bin/spam them when they come in.

If you follow the training here, you'll have (you have) a perfectly good site to sit under your business.

Cheers, Mark

Thanks! You're a great teacher. Kate

There are many people who would do this for money. WA offers lessons and the site builder. It should not be that hard, I passed it as a beginner.

Yeah, just follow the lessons here and you'll have a site up and running in no time.

As Jovo says, you can pay for a pre-made site - but you may then have to pay for ongoing maintenance, updates etc - whereas if you learn to build it yourself, you won't ever have to pay anyone else to do it.

All the best, Mark

Thanks. I have a site up its just taking too much of my time working out the details and just want to get on with my actual business. Thanks for the advice. It is much appreciated. Kate

Thanks Mark.

What particular details are you struggling with?

The community support here is second to none (I've been here a while, so I can vouch for it) - post your questions/problems, and I'm certain you'll get all the help you need.

If you still want a paid for site done for you - then there are people here who do that as a business (DomW for example - there are others).

All the best, Mark

Great! I will inquire.

So Mark this is what I am struggling with. I recently switched from the all in one SEO plugin to Yoast SEO. Since then I have been getting these random emails through my site telling me that my site has errors. See below the email examples: I am afraid to click on the links for fear it could be a virus or worse. I want them to stop but just don't know how. And I don't know if there really is something I need to do more with my site. Any suggestions?

Example:
From: Jason Woods

Hi - ignore this kind of email - I get around 100 per day (I have a few sites).

If you are using a mobile responsive theme (most are these days), then you have nothing to worry about.

I actually used that exact same theme (as your site http://nutrifitmom.com/ ) for an author friend of mind. It is 100% mobile friendly. Just shrink your browser screen, and watch the menu collapse into a drop down list, your side-bar moves under your main content, your images resize... ie. IT IS RESPONSIVE and "Jason" the bot/troll/whatever you want to call it, is wrong.

It's just some internet bot crawling looking for WP sites, and casting out a net to see how many fish it can catch.

It's likely to scare a lot of people that don't know any better - and they will be the ones who will contact "Jason" and end up losing lots of money trying to fix a problem which probably doesn't exist.

If you've ever see Rogue Traders or similar programs, where tradesmen go around worrying the hell out of pensioners that their roof is leaky, and needs fixed right away - or their house will fall down... well this is the same for people with websites.

Making claims like: "by turning your website mobile friendly you will immediately be able to double the conversion rate for your existing traffic" - is like saying "your drive needs paving - and if you do that, then your car won't cost you as much at its next service, cause it won't be damaged as much" - really?

Yes, mobile friendly sites are good - but trying to hook you by claiming to double your conversion rate (has "Jason" got any idea what your business is, or what your current conversion rate is, or even if your website is aimed at people you want to convert??? - Answer: I doubt it). Oh, and did I say already - your site IS responsive - so "Jabot" hasn't actually had a human being cast their eye over your site.

Now, onto the SEO plugin.

All in One and Yoast - do exactly the same job. I have 20-30 sites (some test sites, not all live) - I use All in One on around 30% of them - as they were built here, and WA packages up All in One with any new site you create here.

However, I actually prefer Yoast - as I like the red is bad, green is good traffic light type system - it's very visual - and when you see a green light, it's very satisfying. I use it on most (70%) of my sites.

Switching to Yoast has nothing to do with you being spammed liked this. It would have happened anyway. When you try to share your links, and promote your site, you will attract these bots/leeches/scum - and they will try everything and anything to scare you into parting with your money to fix a problem that doesn't exist.

Just remember - you are the pensioner, they are the rogue tradesmen.

But also just remember - you can ask any question here, in a safe environment - and you'll get the support of thousands of people who have already experienced what you have, and struggled with the same issues you have - and every time you ask for help here, you'll get it.

So don't be overwhelmed by building a site - that's just the tool you use to underpin your business - it's your actual business that is important. If you screw up a page on your site - you log into WP and change it. It's not like bricks and mortar where you have to invest money to make things happen, or to change things, or to correct mistakes - you just change it :)

I know I've rambled on quite a bit here - but I really hope it's helped to set your mind at ease. You have the start of a great site, in a really popular niche - be proud of what you've achieved with it so far, and if you are in any doubt about anything to do with your online business, post back here first before even giving it a second thought - and certainly before worrying about something. We've either all gone through the same thing, or are going through it too - and a problem shared...

I really hope that helps?

All the best, Mark

Mark, Thank you sooooo much for your support and help today. I am glad I'm not the only one who has experienced this. I'm new to the online world and just not experienced enough with what to expect out in the Internet world. You have been awesome and I can't thank you enough. Thank you again, Kate.
