Why you should submit a sitemap - my experience
My site showed up on the first page of Google, yaaay. BUT, there is a “but”, the search results were pointing to my home page, not my actual post. Crab :(
So, I researched a little bit, read a couple of articles which suggested tons of complicated operations and I decided I will not do that simply because it was too complicating for me. Among all the sophisticated suggestions there was one I thought I can cope with – submitting a sitemap to Google Webmaster. I have not done this yet because, again, I was thinking it is too complicated.
It turned out all I needed was a plugin and a few easy set up steps.

Now I am on the first page of Google with my post in the search results.
Sometimes all you have to do is overcome your laziness, be determined that you can do it and just put some effort in it.

Thanks for sharing. I've never thought of doing it because my pages haven't showed up on the first page of Google. I guess I should do it, just in case it ever happens!
