I have had a few YouTube channels, three of which have quite a few million subscribers already. They are also monetizing quite well with Adsense, affiliate marketing, sponsorships, digital products, etc. If you combine all these, you have a very lucrative business. It takes quite a bit of effort, especially at first, but as time goes on you don't have to spend too much time on your channel other than uploading videos frequently and consistently.
It also depends what niche your videos are in, and your SEO makes a big impact on your views, subscribers, and how much you'll get in CPM and RPM. Certain keywords get your higher RPM as businesses are willing to pay more for those. With patience, persistence, and consistency... You have a winner!

Thanks Kyle. And yes it is crazy how much it can vary from video to video what you earn on the ad revenue. But luckily the videos with how RPM can still send some good traffic to the website:-)
