Are YouTube Shorts a Good Idea (Not for All)
Many people talk about YouTube Shorts and how important it is to make them.
They definitely can give great results BUT they are not necessarily for all. In this video I will talk about some things to consider before getting into YouTube Shorts that many people do not talk about. This can help you find out if it is for you or not.

I consider myself a beginner on YouTube, having created and uploaded 25 full videos and about 20 YouTube Shorts.
My approach to YouTube Shorts is to treat them as "trailers" for the actual videos.
In other words, the Shorts are just teasers with links to the full videos.
I know that only a small percentage of viewers actually go on to watch the full video, and time will tell if this strategy works.
As you correctly pointed out, the main question is whether it's worth the time spent creating these Shorts.
At this point, I'm still willing to put in the effort, and here's how I do it:
Once I have my full video, I download the transcript, run it through ChatGPT, and ask it to choose three key points and create a transcript for the YouTube Short.
Then I acquire some images or short video clips (either I know what to choose or ChatGPT helps me out with that as well), add subtitles, and that's it.
It takes a few hours, but with experience, I believe it can be done even faster.

While writing this comment, I checked my Analytics for the performance of two full videos.
I discovered that only a few views (less than 1%) are coming from related Shorts.
So, it seems like creating Shorts might not be worth it in my case...
I might create a few more, but it's crucial to keep checking the analytics to see how well they perform.
Mikael, thanks a lot for your insights—I believe I will focus more on the full-length videos.
Cheers,
Mike
Thanks for sharing.
I also use my Shorts as teasers for full videos. It doesn't give a lot but I do it in a way where it doesn't take me extra time as I have a VA that make the long videos into Shorts. If I had to spend time doing it myself it would not be worth it. But as you say it is important to test and look at analytics to fi d out how it works for you and your audience.
Good morning Mikael,
Thank you for another YouTube update, it's appreciated.
I have heard lots of different things about YouTube shorts; Mikael, many professional YouTubers like yourself appear to have very mixed feelings, which I do understand. I have heard of people having great success with YouTube shorts and other people saying that they think YouTube shorts actually damaged our channel. So I definitely think we need to be careful.
I haven't created any YouTube shorts yet. I'm guessing perhaps if you're a fun channel, YouTube shorts may be beneficial, but if it's more of a serious channel about Internet marketing or something similar, then it may not be appropriate.
I will probably look at YouTube shorts when I'm getting tired and just flick through them before I go to bed! The fact is, I probably shouldn't be looking at YouTube shorts at all, I should just go to bed and get refreshed for the next day. My point is that I'm not serious about YouTube shorts and maybe other people are the same.
Wishing you a fantastic Wednesday and all the best.
Roy
Thanks Roy.
Some people definitely get good results with Shorts but it depends a lot on the niche and channel. Some are also just specialized in Shorts and that is all they do, but do not think any of those are affiliate marketers.
It's a pleasure, Mikael!
I think you are probably right, Mikael; affiliate marketer videos need to be more precise rather than a quick watch.
Have a great Thursday.

I am divided in my thoughts on YT shorts.
On one hand it a great idea for introducing topics, but in my opinion, shoul be linked to more info via something on the video.
But YT’s normal videos give the option of being able to provide more info and can still be “short” for those with short attention spans. lol.
