Should We Burn All of Our Boats?
Hello everyone,
- Hernán Cortés: In 1519, upon arriving on the shores of what is now Mexico to conquer the Aztec Empire, the Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés is widely said to have destroyed his ships. The goal was to ensure his men were fully committed to the conquest, leaving no possibility of retreat to Cuba. Historical accounts clarify he likely scuttled (sank) them rather than burning them, but the effect and the powerful metaphor remain the same: "There is no turning back".
When it comes to being an entrepreneur there has been discussion of when starting to build a business that it might be appropriate to burn out boats - No plan B.
There are times when this may not be the best idea, also, such as when one has great income from a current job.
For others, having a Plan B actually hurts their building a business, because they are not totally 100% committed to making it work whereas with no Plan B they need to be working it to turn it into a profitable business asap.
When I left the USA to move to the Philippines, I left my own Security Business that I had built.
I did have my publishing business for income which turned out to not be enough to live on after a few months.
So I had no choice but to build the business even more than it was and went from 188 titles to now 1,650 titles.
Had I stayed in the USA and moved to another state, I am sure I would have found a j.o.b. to be working at again and my publishing business would be no where near where it is today.
Are you holding back from really building your business?
Its ok if you only have x amount of hours a week. Then take those hours and really do what you have to in order to keep building it up.
If we often work so hard making someone else wealthy in their business, why shouldn't we be doing that for ourselves and our future?

Those two statements say it all.

While I am not burning my boat yet, I need to live. 😂
I think I am getting closer to buying the matches.
I wrote recently about an unpleasant experience I had at work, and how it had motivated me to really work hard on my online business.
That motivation is starting to snowball, during my latest "weekend", my productivity has continued to thrive. I hope I can keep carrying that momentum forward.
So, I need the stability of the boat for now, but I can see getting to a point where I may be able to strike that match.
Thanks for sharing.

I kind of burnt my boat but not completely because I am retired now too. I do not have a lot of retirement money though because I retired earlier than 70 years old. If I were to move to Asia, will I be able to keep collecting my retirement money? MAC.
Yes. I have everything deposited in U.S. Banks and then send myself money from there. I make free money with the conversion rate as well.
