Are You Still Working Your J.O.B., But Having A Difficult Time Building Your Own Business?
Hello Everyone,
(Cover Photo: Factory worker hard at work by Image Studio)
As I was reading various posts on comments on Wealthy Affiliate, I was struck by something they were saying.
It seems to me most people have no trouble getting up and going to work on time.
They are able to go to work whether they are tired or bored or whatever and they are making money for someone else while earning their pay.
So why is it seemingly so hard to commit to yourself and your own business to do what you need to do under similar circumstances?
You'll do it even grudgingly for your employer, but are unable to do it for yourself?
What's wrong with that picture?
Your own business or side hustle is your eventual ticket to Freedom.
We just need to lower our expectations, because normally it takes time to build a business up from scratch.
So be patient and feel free to feel excited for what could lie ahead of you.
Anything is possible for any of us.
Don't be the one to kill your own dreams.

Absolutely, Mel! This really hits home. Many of us show up consistently for someone else, yet struggle to give ourselves the same commitment and patience. Building your own business takes time, persistence, and faith in the process—but every small step counts. Staying consistent and lowering unrealistic expectations is exactly how long-term success is created. Thanks for the reminder to keep showing up for ourselves!
I agree with what you have posted. Initially I struggled to view my business as my J.O.B. and did not put it as a priority. It wasn't until I viewed my business as my J.O.B that I began to work it like a JOB. I still have days where I allow myself to neglect my J.O.B. (business), but they are becoming fewer as I have learned to set my schedule as though I were 'going to work at a JOB for another employer.'
I find that having a set work schedule for my J.O.B. just as I would with an employer has helped me to keep my schedule more efficiently because of the many years of training with keeping my schedule shifts for others.
Also, I came up with a the following to help me view my business as my J.O.B.: Just Obtain your Business (J.O.B).
Interesting point, Mel.
I’ve never really been a “job person” myself, so I can’t speak from the employee side in the traditional sense. What I have noticed though, is how often people bring incredible discipline and reliability to helping others build their dreams.
Sometimes the real shift is learning to extend that same commitment and patience to yourself. Thanks for the reminder.

I think about this every day as I get ready for my commute to work. The biggest and obvious difference is knowing I’m going to get paid. Imagine working for 2 years straight and not getting paid. Lol
I’m dreaming big and not giving up on getting my freedom back, but right now, my job allows me to follow my dreams without being homeless.
Thanks for sharing Steve!
A very long time ago when the internet was new, instead of watching TV after work, I got on my PC and started doing things to earn money. Eventually that became my Online businesses that I have today.

This is true for most people, as it was for me when I joined WA back in 2013. However now that I have changed careers, my outlook is much different.
I enjoy my healthcare job because I am helping people that need my expertise to remain healthy and alive. There is also another reason I like my J.O.B.
My current niche is part of my job and it is how I promote it and thus earn income from both an affiliate link and sometimes in person on the spot.
Sure I will eventually just do the affiliate side of my income, but right now for me, my job helps me to grow my affiliate business and I love helping people learn about it.
Thanks for sharing Robert!

My pleasure Mel!
Wow, your business and your job are two sides of the same coin. That is VERY helpful.

Everyone in healthcare uses the products I promote, including myself, which makes me a walking advertisement. It's a win-win!
