Three Tips To Prevent Writer's Block

Before I became a professional writer, I used to write blogs and stories for my own enjoyment. I was always in creative flow (no sign of writers block in sight) and the bonus was I could do it whenever I wanted. Speed ahead many years and I was now no longer just doodling away when I wanted - I had to write on demand which is a totally different ball game. If you write for a living then you'll know that this can sometimes interfere with the creative side especially if you have deadlines to keep. Add this to late nights, juggling family life with business - you may find that the words and ideas start screeching to a halt.

Whether your an affiliate or just selling your own products your customers there is no denying the fact that search engines love content. This normally means writing most days - the more the better. This means that we have to ensure that we are fueled up to full capacity to provide it for them.

Writing content for yourself or others certainly requires energy so how do you get your juice back so you can avoid writer's block and keep the content coming?

Here are the three tips that have helped keep me in writer's flow:

DO

  • Take regular breaks from the computer. Over exposure to the computer can alter your energy field, zap your brain cells and is the quickest way to have your creativity bolting out of the nearest exit. I often take a break from the computer and write on paper. I then transfer it onto the computer. It may take a little longer but in the long run I find that it increases my productivity as I feel more refreshed.
  • Take a walk in nature - research by Kansas University shows that nature boosts are creativity levels by 55%.You'll probably come back with tons of ideas and eager to put pen to paper. The countryside can be a great muse.
  • Keep your working environment tidy/inspirational - cluttered environments can lead to a disorganized mind. Having a regular spring clean of your working space is inviting and more enjoyable to work in. I'm not sure about you but I'm more productive when I'm in nice surroundings. I often stick vision boards with images that represent my goals onto my walls because they remind me what I'm working towards. Pictures also unleash more ideas for more articles which means more content so it's a win win situation for you. I always take a leaf out of Google's book. They certainly understand the importance of providing a fun, vibrant and stimulating environment for their employees. Happy people are much more productive which is good news for their profits and yours.

Happy doodling.......

I'd love to hear any other tips that you use to keep yourself in writer's flow so please share.

Hi Melanie,
These are real life helpful tips that I also use and in addition I add singing to that walk which helps me to listen to myself. Somehow the other body parts like limbs also want to perform and and be appreciated!
Many thanx for this.

Hi Stan. Thank you for reading and commenting. Cheers for the tips about singing. Yes that's very true. It's good to appreciate the whole body. The good thing about living in the countryside is that you can sing, dance and pretty much do anything you want as there is normally no one there to hear except ourselves. You're welcome and thanks for sharing your tips.

All 3 of those are EXCELLENT especially the nature one. ~Debbi

Hi Sui. I'm glad you found the article helpful. Thanks for reading. Nature is in my opinion one of the most powerful ways to unlock our creativity...all that fresh air certainly boosts thinking power.

Good ideas I'll keep them In mind. Something I just thought of is meditatlng and vigorous exercise

Thanks and cheers for checking my post out. Yeah meditation is a great way to increase energy flow and thus keep in flow. I do both of the ones that you suggested. Thanks for sharing your tips.

I like listening to Pink Floyd that keeps me thinking and imagining all the best

Hi. Thanks for reading and for your tip. Always best to go with what works for you.

Hi. I like to use "swipe files" or idea books or index cards. For my keyword research in Jaaxy I have tons of keyword lists. Then if I'm ever stuck I go back to one of these for inspiration.

That being said, my newest "toy" is a whiteboard. I have one on the wall by my desk and last night I brain-mapped my next book. Brainstorming or free-flowing your ideas is a great way to focus on your current piece plus get other great ideas. Thanks for your tips.

All very great tips, thanks for sharing Melanie!

Hi, thanks for reading and commenting. I'm glad you found them useful! I love writing, it's my passion. I think that's what attracted me to this opportunity. It's a great feeling when you write something and you can see others are benefiting from it. Have a lovely evening. Much success in your business.

I love to write as well,I have notebooks everywhere of just hand writing things when I am in the mood. Still like the hand penmanship, just the old school in me.

Have a lovely evening as well!

Kim

Hi Kim. Haha you sound like me. I have a love affair with paper so have lots of notebooks that are full lying around that I can't part with. Yes, same here. I still prefer writing with a pen. I love the feel of it in my hand and find I'm much more creative.

Thank you!!

Melanie
