*****Respect Yourself*****
Developing a strong sense of self-respect can help you fulfill your potential, develop healthy relationships, and make everyone around you see you as someone worthy of respect. If you truly want to respect yourself, then you have to accept yourself, and work on becoming the person that you have always wanted to be. The best way to ensure this is to get into the right mindset.
1.) Get to know yourself. The more you understand about yourself, the more you'll see and appreciate how unique you really are, and the more you'll respect yourself.
2.) Learn how to handle criticism. It's important to really listen to the things that others are telling you and you will be able to use the feedback for self improvement.
3.) Forgive yourself. If you want to respect yourself, then you have to be able to forgive yourself for anything that you have done in the past that you have been less than proud of.
4.) Accept yourself. You need to be comfortable in your own skin and learn to love and accept the person who you are.
5.) Maintain a positive attitude. A positive attitude can make or break your success in life, as well as the thoughts about who you are. Even if things aren't going your way, be confident about the fact that something good is bound to happen, eventually.
6.) Stop trying to keep up with everyone. Maintain your own standards and work on achieving the goals you want to achieve, instead of doing the things that you think would impress your friends or give you monetary bragging rights.
7.) Believe in your choices. If you want to respect yourself, then you have to believe in the decisions that you have made. It's OK to ask other people for advice.
8.) Take care of your body. A person who neglects his health fails to see how lucky he/she is to be alive. When you make an effort to keep your body in good working order, you will not only feel better, but you will also feel a sense of pride.
9.) Don't let other people "get to you." Or as my dad would always say "Don't let it bother you" Though it might sound impossible, your sense of self worth and happiness should come from yourself, and not from the people around you. Sure, some compliments can make you feel better. But, at the end of the day....your happiness and self satisfaction has to come from within.
Keep smiling...and respect yourself.
