Facebook Algorithm Change!
So, shock of all shocks, Facebook has changed the algorithm again. They are redoing how everything appears in our news feeds, thus increasing page competition for newsfeed space. What does that mean for us as page owners? Lets take a look at what Facebook has to say:
According to them, when the average person visits their newsfeed, there are over 1,500 possible different stories that can be shown in the newsfeed. I don't know about you, but I'm glad I don't have to scan through that many news stories. Because of that, and the ever increasing number of pages/friends updates that are in the feed, we as page owners are now seeing a drop in our organic readership. That sucks. Less and less people are seeing our updates. What's the answer, per Facebook's new update? Well, they plan on seeing our downward trend continue. I have over 3k fans on my page. 2 weeks ago, my average post was getting roughly 600-2k views, depending upon how many people interacted on the post. Now? I'm lucky to get about 300. With a highly interactive post.
Why are they doing this? According to the article released, it's to increase the 'quality' of the newsfeed. AND, to get page owners to purchase ad space. That's really the bottom line. They have figured out how to squeeze even more money from small page owners to keep their viewership up. Their exact words are 'a combination of engaging Page posts and advertising to promote your message more broadly. Advertising lets Pages reach the fans they already have and find new customers as well.' Basically, buy advertising space from them in order to reach your current fans and to read new fans. I purchased about $15 in a status boost ad credit. I got 10,000 views for my page. And 1 like. 1. freaking. Like. Not worth it, to me. What do you guys think about this new update?

Derek of Social Triggers talked about this recently. He recommends interacting with your fans, let them know what's happening and tell them why as a result they should be on your email list. ;)
Very interesting, I have a modest following on FB, but i have noticed a changed in the views,
Yeah it's no fun. I'm not too thrilled with it as a good portion of my early readership came from FB
I was never a huge fan of facebook in the first place, but everyone was, and is still using it so i felt I needed to as well. This blog just concretes my opinion, bloody crap. Thanks for the heads up Megan
You're welcome! I use it as a place to interact with my readers and get feedback on what they want to see/read about. Looks like I won't be doing that much anymore!

My views on my FB pages have gone into the toilet since this change. I am still trying to figure out what to do. Cut my losses and concentrate on the other platforms like G+? Luckily the bulk of my blog traffic continues to come from Pinterest. But I am seriously thinking of abandoning FB except for networking in bloggers groups.
