Human Nature Doesn't Change - So Learn to Profit From It!
First off, I would like to thank Ithamar for inspiration to write this post - I would strongly suggest that you check out that original post here.
Today I would like to share some of my thoughts about IM in hopes that they may be of some value to the members here at Wealthy Affiliate. I read the above referenced post earlier (it is dynamite, so I urge you to check it out) & it reminded me of the nature of people.
As sure as the sun will rise tomorrow, we can be assured that some things will never change. With regards to human nature, it is my personal belief that this knowledge alone can be wildly profitable. How can this knowledge benefit us? Here are just a few of the ways:
- Holidays & Scheduled Events - Nowadays, it seems like all of the major holidays on our calenders are monetized: Christmas, Halloween, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, 4th of July, etc. Don't forget every year there's tax season, graduations, weddings, anniversaries, and football season. A cunning marketer can reliably exploit each of these events as opportunities for profit.
- Change of season - If we are willing to dig a little, we can uncover a bundle of ways to stuff our wallets every quarter. Winter means snowblowers and shovels, Spring brings household cleaning supplies, Summer gives us beach and patio products, and Fall can be reserved for getting an early jump on the holiday season. There's always something.
- Life Transitions - What kind of advice (& stuff) did you need when you moved into your very first place as an adult? What about when you got a job in another state? Or how about when your best friend had to consider placing his or her parents into a long-term care facility? Think about it; each stage of our lives bring new challenges. Furthermore, this can represent a niche ripe for entry.
- Primordial Desires - Now let's be honest here: at our core, most of us want the same basic things. Food, Shelter, Safety, Companionship, Health, & Wealth (I would also add Leisure Activities). Unfortunately, because of these basic human needs, many business entities have experienced windfall profits catering to them - and so have a whole lot of unscrupulous elements. I won't get into it, but you can probably name a specific advertisement that caters to each one of these core desires.
I am confident that you get my point. When we view the opportunities to build a business based on the nature of people, an interesting thing happens. No longer is the dominant thought 'can I do this?'. Rather, it shifts to 'I've got to get my slice of the pie!' And this is where a reorientation of our views come into play.
See, if we view our Wealthy Affiliate training as the means that will help us build the skills to reliably profit from the predictable elements of human nature online, then no longer is it a question of does this thing work. Rather, it becomes a formula, or a process. Here is the process for a newbie in it's most basic form; learn how to build a website (a skillset all it's own), learn how to do the background research on a market niche, enter the market, secure a share of the market, & profit from selling your products or services to them. This process can be altered and applied in a plethora of forms. Once you learn the ropes, the application of the principles are all on you.
What I am saying is that from this point forward, I challenge you to reorient your belief system. No longer will you think like a consumer. Begin to view things from the standpoint of a merchant. Understand that it won't happen overnight or from just reading this post alone. But put in the time, do the work, & GAIN from changing your viewpoint.
Remember: human nature doesn't change. Will you put yourself into a position to profit from it? The choice is yours, but the good news is that your have access to the tools & a supportive community right here. The rest is up to you.

Thank you. Sadly, we are destined to see this scenario play out time & again. I appreciate your thoughts on the matter.
Excellent point my friend! When you start to view things from a merchant standpoint, then all the research, learning, investing, and planning makes perfect sense, doesn't it?
Awesome job!
Thank You: That's quite a compliment coming from you! I am humbled.
To briefly expound on this point, it behooves many of the new folks showing up here (that WANT this to work for them) to alter their views on the marketplace. To understand & embrace the mindset of a merchant is to understand that the training here is arming them with the skills to reliably profit from the vast ocean of the internet environment.
Instead, many will show up here, viewing WA as a product - like a cell phone. From my standpoint, this sows the seeds of many ill feelings.

A great post with great insight. You are so right. We are not the consumers....our visitors to our website are. We need to remember that.
