You absolutely can change it. Log into your website. Choose Appearance/Customize. You can even preview whichever you want to use. I've done it twice before I finally settled on an appearance I liked. You can totally do it on the fly. Just try to remember which ones you like so you can go back and forth until you are satisfied.
Any time. I always forget about chat and unanswered questions and boy, do I love to chat! :-)

You can always change your theme
Maybe do it is child theme1st to make sure you are safe
When you choose to add a new theme, you can also go to added features and pick what you would like
