Site Feedback - be critical!

Hello everyone,

I just want to take few minutes to discuss about site feedback. The Site Feedback Platform is very useful to have some good feedbacks of our website, especially in the early development stage of our website. It is a seious tool and we need to be serious when we use it.

Don't forget that we need credits to use this platform, people that ask for feedback wants to have critical comments about their site, not only compliments. It is a way to adjust our site to make is nicer, better, cleaner and at the end, more attractive! But sometimes, feedback we receive may not meet our expectations. Let me share an experience I had.

Recently, I asked for a feedback about my site and of course, I received one. The feedback I received was short and it was only compliments. I was hopping to have some critical comments, points to adjust, modification to make... I'm sure my site is not perfect and I want to improve it. This feedback was of course, fun to read because it was saying that my site was great, but at the end, it didn't help me improving my site.

My goal with this blog is to help people realize that when they offer feedback, they need to take some times to do a good critical review of the site. They are, in a sense, "hired" by others to find the weak points of their website, not only to have compliments. Do not hesitate to be critical!

Bye!

Max

Hi, Max. Thank you. I agree so much with your message here. I am new to WA, but already I feel I have taken my time to analyze thoroughly others' sites. I was in management in my career days...perhaps that is why? I do not know. Feedback is a very good thing for both persons - the giver and the receiver. The problem arises when either of the persons involved do not know how to say and act constructively and REACT instead.
It can be unfair though if we consistently waste our credits to ask for reviews and get instead a 3-minute once over. To be honest, it does not make me happy at all...:(
BUT THIS IS HAPPENING.
Thanks for listening. I have only been at WA less than 2 weeks.
Rita

Yes I totally agree! I wrote some training on it and trying to create a great place for really great feedback.

Please get involved so we can kick start it!

Hey Max, I just spent another couple of wasted credits on feedback (I requested feedback on my latest content- what I got was "You need to move your About Me page.")
You seem pretty switched on about feedback - do you want to trade a review of each other's posts?

Hey Max, I had a similar experience with Site Feedback. I absolutely agree with you, 125%!!

I hope this post gets read by many people. Feedback at the early stage of your site development is critical. You don't want to wait until 12 months later to receive honest and constructive feedback.

Each site I have looked at (basic to professional) has components that can be improved and tweaked.

It's unfortunate that some people are afraid to 'provide' constructive feedback. And then are there people who have a hard time with handling and 'receiving' constructive feedback.

My solution has been to make some good connections with people, and personally ask for their honest and in-depth feedback.

I have used Site Feedback twice to 'provide' honest feedback. I usually spend more than 45 minutes reviewing a site. I have used Site Feedback once to 'receive' feedback. The feedback received was general, vague and not useful. I think this person probably spent 5 minutes tops on my site. Perhaps they simply copied and pasted a generic feedback.

Best wishes to you!

Thanks for the comment. I agree with you, some people takes only 5 minutes to review a feedback. You can't see everything in 5 minutes!

Your comment is right on! I do recommend that you have gentle thoughts about the reviewers. I myself have suffered from the same problem but I try to remember that it is hard to be a critic and although many of us can make suggestions, we are not yet experts so are afraid to be critical because we do not yet know what it takes to be a $1,000 a day internet marketing guru. When I make critical comments I worry that I might actually mislead someone because I have always been a little weird and maybe what attracts me to a site is different than a "paying customer".
I just had a wonderful experience in that my immediate mentor (the affiliate under whom I joined) just reviewed my site for me. It was a very positive experience and one I would highly recommend. I will continue asking for reviews on the site review platform. I have gotten some good criticism. Maybe someone will make me that guru. Also, I like reviewing others sites and enjoy getting credits for doing so.

I'm happy to know that you were able to have good feedback! There a probably many persons that do a very good review of website. Also, it is a good thing that you have a guru to help you!

I agree... people are really positive about my site but I also do need to know what isn't working for people.
One note though - being critical doesn't mean you should slam someone's efforts. Just suggestions on where to improve are good.

You used the right word, we need suggestions! At the end, we will make the choice alone.
