Question about Mobile Usability Issues

I have received the Mobile Usability message from Google for my site.

Specifically,

Clickable elements to close together

Text too small to read

From reading about other similar experiences here, it is likely the theme doesn't handle mobile display correctly, but I wanted to check with folk here to confirm if this image from my blog, has resulted in the error.

Or is there another way that I can fix this?

I am using the Hiero theme which I was quite happy with until now.

Thanks

Michael

I suggest you click on validate fix in google console Michael before doing anything to ensure it's not a glitch.
I used to waste endless time trying to 'fix' things. Then exasperated would click validate fix and it always came back as fixed.
So now I always do that first to see if it is an actual problem or not.
On rare occasions it comes back with not fixed, then that's the time to sort it out.

Thanks Linda. I was worried about doing that if the error was genuine, but I used a different site utility, and the page came up ok, except I got this "Page partially loaded" message.
But I will validate the fix, and see what happens next.
Meantime, I have reached out to the theme support team in case they have specific issues.

I have several websites and google seems to glitch on one every several weeks or so. It is rarely an actual problem.

Thanks. That is slightly reassuring to know. I have now validated the fix so will see in a day or 2 whether it was successful.

Fingers crossed for you.

Hi Linda. I just wanted to say thanks again. I did as you suggested, and as advised, the errors were validated correctly so "not an error".
Obviously just a glitch in the matrix, and if it happens again, I will know what to do (unless there is a genuine error in my code of course)
Best wishes

You are very welcome. At least if you try the 'validate fix' first you know whether it is real or not and if it is then the time spent fixing it isn't wasted.

Can you adjust your mobile settings in your desktop admin?

If so, can you look at your mobile view and make adjustments?

The mobile device is a mini-me of your desktop computer. There is no way that you will see everything on your mobile device the same way you see it on your desktop version.

Check your margins/padding. Make sure there is no more than 5x added to sides and/or top and bottom.

Content text is usually 18 pt font, with 1.5 line space.

Hope that helps...

Rudy

Thanks very much for the info 😊 I have received several of these just this week that I was planning on asking an expert to check things for me next week- time to go in there myself, wish me luck 🙏

You can do this! No luck needed, take your time, don't rush. You got this!

Rudy

Given how important it is to have compatibility with mobile it seems hard to believe any theme now would not come with the automatic adjustment built in. Hope you get your answer I am looking on.

Have you checked the mobile display because the image you put seems like a desktop view?

Most themes should be ready to display in both, but the navigation menu is usually changed to from a clean hear display to a handburger menu and then dropdown menu is usually fine and not too close.

Bearing in mind google is not always right as their spiders/bots crawl you site and give suggestion.

Wish I could help, but over my head, Michael.
