I thought I'd try and promote fiction by Australian authors, but I'm really not sure it's going to work.
I have no real evidence for this except my keyword searches turn up low

Matt,
If it's something you're very interested in and would enjoy working hard at, I would say keep going and see where it leads. If there are low numbers, it means your competition might also be low. Of course if they're extremely low numbers, might mean there is little interest.

Thanks Van, for taking the time and trouble to respond. I really appreciate it. I'm guessing that until you make your first sale, there's always doubt about your niche?

Oh, and what makes you think it's a dud? Just the low search numbers? Australian authors definitely is very nichey, so will have low traffic numbers, but there's got to be an audience for it. have you tried searching on some forums to see what people are looking for?

What about monetizing your site with stuff like "how to self publish on Kindle". That might be a good angle.

It's a tough call. There's money to be made in any niche, but sometimes you have to think outside the box. You can always put this project on hold and start another website now that you are a bit more savvy to what worked and didn't work for you the first time around.

If you do start another site, I might pick something that was a bit more product focused, with some things that you could easily review and promote.

Nothing wrong with starting a new project and coming back to this later.

Thanks Nathaniell for both responses. I really appreciate it. As I said to Van above, until there's a sale, there'll always be doubt about the niche (for me at least). I'll stick with it, and perhaps look at something more product-focused as well.
