What is stopping you?
Ok take a moment to think about this question (insert appropriate thinking music here) what really is stopping you? Is it the all-consuming fear of failure? I know that for many people out there that is the number 1 reason that they don’t try, give up early, say it’s too hard, say it’s not for me and countless other reason upon reason upon reason. I do understand this sentiment perfectly I really do and I sympathise wholeheartedly but perhaps those are not the real reasons that you are sitting still, procrastinating your next move! Perhaps your real reason is the Fear of Success, yes you heard right it’s really the fear of success that is holding you back. Perhaps after years of being told you won’t amount to much, being overlooked for that promotion, feelings of worthlessness as in I don’t deserve this (poor self-confidence and self-esteem) or simply having tried and failed in the past. Why do I ask this question? Who do I think I am to bring this up? What rights or qualifications etc do I have? The answer is very simple, and as I type this my heart is racing, I CAN say this because, and it’s great to say this openly, this describes me. Yes I am afraid of being successful, for the above reasons and more.
So, what can be done about this malady I hear you ask? Simple really! Action, action and more action. As Nike like to say “Just Do It”. Have I done it yet? No, I haven’t. So who am I to tell you to “Just Do It”? No one really, just someone who is looking at himself and understanding what needs to be done. Am I going to do it? ABSOLUTELY I AM. Am I still making excuses to myself? Definitely!!! I put my last excuse in front of me a little while ago. The excuse was I wasn’t going to build my site until I had my own domain. Well pay day is next Wednesday so no more being unable to delay as I can easily afford to get my domain. A weak excuse? Maybe. I will take action and change the loop in my head.
Fear of success, fear of failure or simply fear can stop you being what you can, nay should be so I extend my hand to you and say let’s go on this journey together.

Yes, action cures fear everytime. Just take that first step and the the next, and the fear melts away.
Great post! Another big one is fear of the unknown and of change. People become comfortable even if their current situation is horrible, so they do nothing to try to change because they're afraid of all of the what ifs.
How true that is Chris. We allow fear to rule us far too much. Fear creates inaction which in turn increases fear so it becomes a vicious cycle

Like you, I have dealt and continue to deal with these issues. 'Fear of success' or 'Fear of failure', it all comes down to fear.
Attack the irrational basis of your fear and it will evaporate like the mirage that it is!
