MailChimp - new restrictions - what's the alternative?

Hi.

Mailchimp today sent an update to its terms of service/use.

It has said it will no longer allow:

  • Escort and dating services
  • Pharmaceutical products
  • Work from home, make money on online, and lead generation opportunities
  • Gambling services or products
  • Multi-level marketing
  • Affiliate marketing
  • Credit repair and get out of debt opportunities
  • List brokers or list rental services
  • Selling “Likes” or followers for a social media platform

I get it - they feel their service is compromised by high bounce rates, spam reports etc - and want to eliminate these types of emails from their offer.

But I use MailChimp - for all of my sites - some affiliate, some work from home, some plain and simple information sites.

Their restrictions impact all of my sites - and therefore I have no option but to move to another provider.

What we are doing here, in promoting WA, or any other affiliate offer, is not illegal - if it was, then take the biggest example, Amazon Associates - it would not be allowed to exist.

All we are doing is connecting people with a solution to a problem - not swindling them out of their hard earned money.

So, my question is - what's the alternative?

Aweber is highly used - but do they have the same restrictions does anyone know?

I think for the plan I'm on with MailChimp, Aweber is priced similarly - but are there alternatives that anyone can recommend?

ActiveCampaign is another I've seen used by some people I follow... again, any comments on that, the service, the price?

If so, please post below in the comments - the more detail (number of mails per month / price) would really help me and many others I'm sure.

All the best,

Mark

I use aweber and they don't have the restrictions that you listed here with mailchimp.

Here's aweber's pricing http://www.aweber.com/pricing.htm - scroll down a bit to see all the levels.

And personally, aweber blows away mailchimp with function and features.

Cheers Leo - good to have a recommendation.

I'm with aweber.

I guess I will switch to AWeber.

So - does this mean that we can't simply place a quick synopsis in an email (without affiliate links) but the synopsis can have a link to the blog at our website. And of course, our blog will have the affiliate links and other info.

Would this not take care of MailChimp while also giving you the ability to stick with them for the time being?

I think if you drive people to your blog, where you have affiliate links - then that would not be in-line with their policy. I wouldn't put it passed them that they would check sites to ensure they conform.

I've used MailChimp for many years - this is making me switch.

Cheers, Mark

I've used them in the past and still do on occasion. But, like you, now a change needs to be made.

Thats bad. I use Mailchimp too for my first subscribers.

Yeah I know - shooting themselves in the foot!

And yes, Getresponse is $15 a month ( up to 1.000 subscribers), while Aweber is $19 ( up to 500 subscribers). Both services include unlimited emails.

Hi, Aweber people told me that they don't mind affiliate marketing, work from home, lead generation...etc, as far as there is no spam involved.
Getresponse is another great service which I will be using. They are the same as aweber. They only don't want spammers, all services are allowed (apart from adultery etc...).
I hope I helped.

You have Nenad - any recommendations will help people reading this.

I am not using any of these products - I am not ready to do so as of yet. I heard of Sendlane, I have no expertise or idea about its quality. I just heard that it is an alternative to Aweber. This comment is totally anecdotal and has no facts to support it. Regards, Fred

Cheers Fred,

Mark

Thank you for the heads up. Wow.

I use mailchimp as well but will now have to rethink my options.

Hi Brian - I think it's quite sad - here we are trying to build a sustainable business to better ourselves, and they don't appreciate that.

Maybe they should just be more careful about individuals with high bounce rates and spam reports - and clamp down on them.

I've never sent an email to anyone who didn't provide me with their email address in the first instance - so I know mine are legit.

Such a shame - MailChimp is a great, easy to use service - but this will damage them I believe.

Cheers, Mark

Yes I do too but for us who have relied on them this is a slap in the face.
