Hi everyone! So my article is a bit delayed because of my personal writing obligations to one of my clients. But, here it is: Business Idea #2 Design Logos for Small Businesses.

Firstly, we all know that a brand is recognized by its logo. Every logo must be unique and eye-catching in order for people to remember your brand. If you think about it, when you started your first website, the first thing you probably thought of was what your website must look like and whether you need a logo.

Logo designing is actually not as complicated as it used to be back in the day. Nowadays you can design your own professional looking logo within a matter of minutes without having to pay a graphic designer hundreds of dollars.

My recommended website for logo designing

Let it be known that I am in no way an advocate for this website, but my recommendation comes from personal experience after doing extensive research into logo designing. Also, I am not an affiliate so not earning anything for recommending this site, thus also not placing a direct link to it.

I found the website Hatchful the most user-friendly when I first created my own logo. On the website (it is a .shopify domain), they ask you to advise what type of logo you want to create (i.e. corporate, etc.) and other specifics regarding your brand.

You would of course need to open an account if you do not have one as yet, and once setup is complete, you can jump straight into the designing of your logo.

Once you have completed the necessary sections, they will create a few logo designs for you to choose from. You can then choose whichever one you like and customize the color, font size and style, etc. to make it more personalized. Once your design is completed, the files will be sent to your email in all the formats you will require to advertise and market your brand.

It is literally as easy as that.

How to make money from logo designing

Here is my idea of how to make money by designing logos. The business model is quite easy actually.

Firstly, now that you know how to create logos, find a way to get clients to buy logos from you. You can do this by advertising your business on advertising sites such as Gumtree, creating a Facebook group/page in which you advertise your services, create a website showcasing your designs and services, etc. The sky is the limit.

Secondly, now that you have a way of getting clients, design packages specific to the customer's needs. Depending on the size of the business, the client might only need a logo. But sometimes the client might need a logo and couple of posters and banners to start their advertising and marketing campaigns if they are just starting up.

Okay, so your business is logo designing, but how about offering packages including a few quality posters you designed to compliment their campaigns?

Here is my idea of packages:

Starter package: 3 custom logos with 3 edits available (ideal for small start-up businesses)
Intermediate package: 5 custom logos with 5 edits available for each, inclusive of a range of different formats for all 5 logos (ideal for established businesses looking to improve their social reach)
Premium package: 5 custom with unlimited edits available for each, inclusive of all formats for marketing campaigns, posters for social sharing and just because they signed up, you can offer them discount on website and Facebook page designing.

These are just ideas, guys. You might want to change them depending on what you choose to do.

Where do I now get these custom posters all of a sudden???

This is also an easy thing to do. For this I recommend Canva (once again, I am not an affiliate of this site).

On Canva you can create numerous designs ranging from book covers and Facebook ads to posters and banners. There are also images and design templates available that you can use as free stock.

And get this, they also have an option to design logos (it is just a little more effort than Hatchful though).

Once your designs are completed on Canva, you can save them there and download them in either PNG, JPG or PDF. You can also magically resize the images to the format or design of your choice if you decide to upgrade to the Business option.

How much money can I make from this?

Depending on the packages you offer, you can charge anything from $10 to $1000s of dollars. The amount has to be fixed for the packages as these will be advertised by yourself. But always offer custom packages to allow the client to choose what they want if they do not require all that you have to offer.

Personally, when I design logos, I charge R500 for an intermediate package (this is roughly $35). I have made good money from this myself so can really vouch for this idea.
