I enjoy camping, reading, and sci-fi! I am interested in connecting and growing with others as we work and have fun pushing forward.

I have met a lot of awesome people in my time here already, and have got my site up finally at longtermcamping(DOT)siterubix(DOT)com
and have seen many others, including a few I will probably become a regular at for their niche alone, and not just their layout!

So far, I currently can keep commenting, so please share any advice, questions, or stories!!

Thank you Martha for the follow and many blessings to you here at WA. If you need any help remember to post your question in the comments section or on live chat, and someone will be able to help you.

I created a short but informative training tutorial for all New Members that tell you what you can do here at WA and most importantly give you a link to the RULES of WA and what you cannot do here. If you have the time or wish to, please check out the rest of my training, listed under my picture on my profile page. I explain ways to help you build a better website, ways to make some extra $$$ with your WA training, and best practices here at WA. I occasionally post a humorous blog on first Sunday of every month. Enjoy!

So far I think it's going well. Everyone is so nice, and the training is great - there is so much info I'm going back through parts of it now that I have more overall context.

I have a few posts up on my website already:
longtermcamping dot siterubix dot com
if you want to take a look (no obligation). [I want my site to get attention, but I don't know if it's safe to link anything here that might expose an internal page so please excuse the odd formatting]
I also have a few more drafted so I can put up one a day, hopefully.

I'm not sure if I'm doing the right things to get noticed by Google but it's still early, and i don't understand how to get the articles onto the directory sites, but I am moving forward. Oddly enough, I think I know how I will be framing the articles themselves, though, so that should be one less worry.

I've noticed my troubles don't seem to be on the ideas/writing side, but in the actual website construction/connecting to get attention practical side. I won't give up though.

If I don't make any progress with the directories, I will end up taking you seriously and reaching out. I'm just lost there though, and want to see if I can understand enough to formulate a comprehensible question rather than just blurting words at you and hoping for the best.

Thank you for checking in, it really does mean a lot to know you care!

Firstly, about getting articles on directories?. Is this still in the training (If it is what I think it is), because that is outdated now. Years ago, WA use to recommend submitting articles to article directories as it use to help with ranking your website better. But these days, it's best to put all your content on your website. Build it out to become a authority on the subject. WA even has a article directory called streetarticles.com. I can tell you I haven't used a article directory in 3 years doing this.

To get noticed by Google and get traffic takes time. Like months depending on the competition. This is where keyword research comes into play. The keywords you find using tools will be how you get people to your website. Once you start ranking for keywords in Google you will start getting traffic. Of course you can do social marketing to increase traffic by creating niche accounts on twitter, FB, pinterest etc. But the main way most people get traffic is via ranking for keywords in google.

Each post you write should be targeting a keyword like you have in "camping long term in a tent". As you evolve you will find your posts get longer and more in depth (Which is good). As a guide only, some people say to aim for minimum 600 words per post. Once you start adding more and more posts to your site, you start to gain more trust with Google and G will start ranking you better for your targeted keywords (and hundreds of variations of your keywords)

I wouldn't worry too much about the construction of your site too much in the beginning. The main thing is to keep adding content (Posts) and building trust/authority with Google which is also builds trust with your readers. None of my sites look fancy pancy. They are basic themes with a logo sometimes). Other than that I mainly focus on finding keywords and writing posts targeting those keywords.
P.S as a free member you can't post links anyways :)

Hello Josh,

Thank you for your reply!

Yes, they discussed articles in the training. At least now I know I don't have to worry about it.
I've been working on publishing a post a day, so hopefully Google will notice me sooner rather than later.
Many (many) hours have recently been spent hooking together parts of my social media in order to easily sign in and out of each so I can reference/crosspost to try to gain a little bit of traction. i'm fine with it taking a while, I just won't try to do any affiliate-getting until I have an audience.
Additionally, I have been working on figuring out keyword usage in how I write. Being unused to informal writing in general is causing me to read and reread my posts to make sure the tone isn't off-putting. I hope to improve on my keyword usage as I continue.

Well, in a day and a half I will see what resources I still have access to; but thanks for the heads-up about linking.

Also, not to bother you again, but I haven't been indexed yet, so any advice there would be helpful. I've submitted my sitemap to Google, and they fetched/etc that fine, so I'm hoping that helps. I've read here that it can take a week, but then other articles say just a day or two.

Thanks, Josh, so much,
-Mar

The best way to write your articles is think as if you were talking to your friends and giving honest advice. Don't come across salesy and speak so your audience can relate :)

Yes you should learn about keywords as much as possible. They are very important for reaching the intended audience. There is plenty of training on WA for this.

As for getting indexed, it can take a week or 2. It's just the way it is. But you can do things to speed up the process like setting up Google Analytics, Sitemap and Webmaster Tools (Now known as Google Search Console- but sounds like you have done that already). What I usually do after publishing a post is 'share' my posts on Google Plus account and submit the post url here to get Googles Attention: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/submit-url

I hope things are going well. I know you are getting rolling within the training and there is ONE thing that always tends to confuse people and that is "what is my niche?".

I know, same thing happened to me when I started.

I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I am here if you ever want to run any niche "ideas" by me or you have any questions about finding your niche.

Get back to me when you get the chance! :)

Hello Kyle!

I'm giving the website for my first one a shot right now, actually.

I was looking at a niche in living long term in a tent, camping style. Josh helped me out with understanding keywords more, and by the results, I'm phrasing the website to be more about camping long term in general.
However, I know that with my experience in the niche I will still be able to provide tons of ideas and product affiliates (once I learn how to get affiliates) to whoever I can entice to my site.

Thanks for reaching out, and I'm sure I'll end up reaching right back when I'm confused!

Focus on just ONE website and create success with that before diversifying and creating multiple niche websites.

It only takes ONE website in one niche to be very successful online. I usually find that folks that try to do too much at once (focus on several niche websites) end up in a state of mediocrity because it can be overwhelming and you don't really ever become the expert in just one niche.

It is the experts (specialists) that create long term, successful businesses in any niche.
