One week in -
"You wanna fly?"
I've found this past week very satisfying, having begun the educational/discovery process here at WA … also, the process of unlearning stuff picked up from other programs, Internet searches, and other folks telling me how they think/thought it ought to go.
I've also begun to rein in my marked tendency to go down rabbit trails, spending hours online chasing stuff that's interesting to me just because it is.
However, along one such trail yesterday, I found a quote that struck me:
"You wanna fly, you got to give up the sh** that weighs you down."
- Toni Morrison
During this past week, I’ve noticed many, many new member profiles mentioning having been burned by previous programs (myself included) and how we "hope this one works."
In fact, this theme is so prevalent that I’ve come to see it as an almost necessary experience before arriving at Wealthy Affiliate … We’ve now got something to compare it to. That’s a blessing!
We're here now. Now the information we were seeking is available in abundance. Now we're part of an active, engaged and generous community. That bad stuff can be but a memory, if we will let it be. Maybe suspend the skepticism a bit and maybe let in some sunshine. The good wishes expressed here, I believe, are real. Soak it in and be nurtured by it.
"You wanna fly, you got to give up the sh** that weighs you down."

You have definitely come to the right place.
We are a really friendly bunch here at WA.
We are all here to help each other.
One of the most liberating things you can do after coming to this realization is to unsubscribe from all those email lists that somehow glommed onto you while you were getting that initial 'education'.
What a relief!

Hey Dennis, you're right. I've started doing that. Some stuff, I don't even remember signing up for ... :)
Good post. As far as community--diversity in my opinion, is the way to go. Don't get stuck in interacting with people only because of their number in the rank. In reality, it means very little considering there are many, many successful people here who are not interested in the number and focus on their website success.
It seems like we all have gone thru such drivel. Kind of like throwing a boatload of sh** against the wall to see what sticks. Well not to put WA in or even near those terms, it is a welcomed blessing with all of its learning materials and the more than willing to help WA community. Makes one feel right at home without leaving home. It doesn't get any better than that.... cheers... :-)
