Another Small Victory!
So I've been spending most of my day cleaning up my website. I edited my sub categories in my menu (I took some time to look on other sites that are doing really well and I noticed they all had something in common: minimal sub categories!) While I know that that doesn't mean that you shouldn't have lots of sub categories, it just made me realize that I may be overwhelming myself trying to make sure each sub category has posts in it. Instead I downsized and was able to rename certain categories and made it so that all my posts still made sense under different sub categories as well as now my sub categories actually have more content under each one! I also started using tags so that I have another organization method as well as allowing people to navigate my site better. I went back through all of my posts and added a bunch of keywords in the proper spots and added other keywords throughout each article. So those small victories= less stressed Maddie! But the biggest small victory I had today was seeing that I am 10% site trust with search engines. It may not be much, but it took 2 months to have any trust at all!
Seeing that was the push I've been needing, and cleaning up my site really helped my path seem clear again.
Now I'm off to finish some more unpublished articles I started as well as get back on with my training!
Some of you know from one of my previous blogs that I felt I needed to take a break from training to add more content and get on track with my site. I felt that when I would read the lessons they were not yet relevant to where I was at on my website and that by following along I would be doing things to my site that it wasn't ready for. But today I feel back on track and ready! It is such a great feeling.

Good job Maddie! I know the feeling of how good it feels to get something done that's been hanging over your shoulders. if you ever need help I'm here! Sometimes less is more ;)
I am still having difficulty with categories, menus and sub categories.... I didn't know subcategories could hurt your rankings. Thank you for sharing this. I am glad you feel back on track, that is important. Have a good weekend!
Hey! Sub categories don't hurt your rankings. I just found that for me (as well as others that I've seen become very successful with their websites) that having fewer sub categories makes it easier. I think I was getting too specific and then getting overwhelmed when I only had a post or two in each category. I seriously spent a few weeks overwhelming myself getting too complicated with my site. I found that when I made my sub categories less broad, I was able to fit in all of my posts to fewer categories and have more posts within each sub category. For example, when I was reviewing my site, I have a section called "recipes". But I was adding posts related to info on macronutrients and why fats are important, etc. as well as the recipes. If a reader is clicking on recipes, I feel that they are looking solely for recipes! So I made a "food planning" section under my health option on my menu. That way there is a specific section for more information on anything related to health. Just like with my exercise option. Readers will be looking for workouts, but they can go to the health option and see any articles relating to other information related to working out that's not exercises. Make sense? It really has helped me feel less stressed. I have a tendency to overthink sometimes but just have to remember to K.I.S.S. lol.
Yes, K.I.S.S is an excellent philosophy. Thanks for helping me understand better about the subcategories. It's all still a bit muddled in my mind, but I'll get there. My issue is I have found I learn much better if I can put things in an outline as I go, like a schematic. It makes more sense that way. But with all of this I can't seem to do that. It's frustrating. But it will come to me... eventually. Lol.
No problem. And trust me, you will understand it all sooner than you think you will. I've been here since Dec. 30, and I remember creating my site and everything was a foreign language to me. Now I understand most of the Wordpress dashboard and how everything works. I am the same way though. I have a planner I keep next to my laptop everyday. I check off my tasks daily. It took me a month of figuring everything out and just checking off the tasks in the lessons to realize I needed a posting schedule and a WA schedule. If you read my "Straight Outta Maddie's Planner" blog, maybe it can help you stay on track and get a lot done. It's what I try to follow everyday because it can be hard to feel 100% focused and motivated everyday. When I have a "to-do" list in front of me, I can get in the zone.
Actually, I printed that off when you first blogged it. It's an amazing plan. I don't use all of it, but it gave me some great ideas! Thanks so much for blogging that!
Thanks for sharing your success. Glad to see that you are making progress. Keep it up. Remember: baby steps first.
You are very right! I am very happy with where I am at right now. You can't just jump to success right away. It is a journey, but I really feel like I am in the spot of my journey that I am supposed to be with the time that I've been here. Thank you. :)
Your site looks awesome! Those blueberries are making me hungry! You're a rockstar and your hardwork is paying off!!! Wow!
Lol! Thanks for the motivation! I really appreciate your support. It amazes me. I always read others' blogs about the successes they've accomplished that have kept me motivated these past few months, and now I feel like I'm getting close to those same accomplishments. I still have a long road ahead, and I don't think this is a journey you can just "finish", but I feel like I'm actually starting to see results even if they are just minimal. I love growing with everyone here as well and seeing all the amazing sites that everyone is creating. There's so much talent and passion in these sites and I think a big reason I love WA is because reviewing other websites, I see the subjects that others are interested in. It's just amazing. Like I love health, beauty, and fitness, but then someone else will have a niche related to artwork or how to do something- sometimes things I've never even heard of but are pretty interesting! It's really cool to see what makes someone else happy in their life. I've learned so much just reviewing sites too. I'm so unbelievably happy I found WA. Especially with how negative the world can be especially through social media, it just blows my mind to find a community of people that treat each other this way. And we can all watch each other grow.
Your focus is electric. It's even evident in your response to my comment. Keep it going.... Copy and paste your response as a small WA blog. I think the group would appreciate your thoughtfulness. Keep up the great work!
