Google Search Console Question
What's the difference?
Now that Google did away with the old version of the Webmaster Tool, I noticed some differences that may, or may not, influence the ranking of posts/pages.
One is the eliminating of 'FETCH AS' function. Back in the good old days, once you did 'fetch' the post was usually crawled and indexed within a day, at the most.
The new 'URL inspection on the other hand seems to be just that, and Google crawls whenever they have scheduled a crawl of your site. So, this is a bit of a drawback
The other difference I noticed is the following.I published 20 posts the last 24 days on a new site and submit the URL right away after publishing.
I checked their status last night and...
about half of them have a STATUS of
Indexed, Not submitted in sitemap
while the other half shows as
Submitted and indexed
and when you open the toggle it shows the URL/sitemap.xml
Does anyone have a clue of what's the difference and how it affects ranking?

You pose a thoughtful perspective and ask interesting questions.
When I’ve requested indexing all me URLs got indexed that day or the next. But then, I haven’t come close to publishing so many posts in that short a time.
Just be patient and I’m sure all your request for indexing posts will be indexed in short order.
All the best to you.

I tried that and was not surprised at what I found. Google nor any of the other Internet giants have any respect for their users. All they are after is ways to monetize your existence to boost the amount they can charge their advertisers.
Such is the way of the online world!

This issue has been around for months already and it seems there is no answer. Those that I have read are mostly meaningless.
I have posts that are number 1, some even featured posts, and they are in the sitemap, I can find them there. Yet, they are with the status you described above.
The only explanation which I found, that might sound a bit logical is this - Google has discovered the post and ranked before checking the sitemap. But then the question is why it does not rectify this info once it goes through the sitemap. No answer, no idea why this is so.
