Bing.vc?! Is it Malware?

Searching for CD/DVD Driver Update.............,

I must have picked up this weird dingy. It's not doing anything, actually, but opens the browser window with Bing.vc. It's annoying, to say the least (one extra click).

I ran MalwareBytes AND Windows Essentials scans and neither picked up any unwanted or dangerous malware or virus.

Further searches on how to remove this leading to 3 or 4 sites that sell some kind of anti malware programs, pointing out explicitly 'how dangerous' it is.

Has anyone around here experienced the same? If so, please let us know how to remove. All my efforts failed. I use Chrome and are not able to get rid of it. It also shows up in Firefox.

The interesting thing is that it does not show up if you open an 'incognito' window in Chrome.

I have AVG 2014 seems to work pretty well, I did upgrade and pay for protection,

AVG is fair, keep it updated and scan daily. As a second opinion malware scanner use the FREE malwarebytes utility, no need to pay for this. I have Symantec's Norton Internet Security Suite and have for years I also have malwarebytes for stuff NISS is too lazy to deal with. As far as I know, Symantec guarantees you will not get a virus! I never did!

Best!

W :)

that is great thank you, I did go to the link on here but came up with 404 error will try again

Hi John, here is a free tool AdwCleaner ( http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner this is a program that searches for and deletes Adware, Toolbars, Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUP), and browser Hijackers from your computer. I have used it often when I have picked up one of those nasty hitch hikers attached to my browsers. Hope this will help

Hi, malwarebytes is very good at detecting malware. NEVER rely on MS windows essentials or windows defender EVER they let stuff in and fix nothing! What version of Win are you running? As you no doubt know malwarebytes is not at all good with viruses. Do you have a internet security suite? Perhaps not. If you can afford it try to get one listed in the top 3 by PCMag. Then close everything and do a full scan. It is possible to have a malware/virus dropper that needs your help to drop it's payload. The way you help it is by visiting infected websites so please be safe!

Best,

William :)

It may be those Malware companies paying ad dollars to Bing (they may even be susidiaries of Microsoft). Sounds like those companies conveniently appear so they can come to the rescue… interesting.

Yep, just what I thought. They are ads. I Googled "what is Bing.vc?" and guess what?… the only thing that came up are paid ads with the url www.removalhelp.net/bing.VC There was also a note that said… "There was a problem loading the results of your query. We apologize for this inconvenience. Please bear with us while we resolve this issue, SUGGESTIONS… Please retry your query in a few minutes" Hmmmmmm… Could be a scam. Will dig a little deeper. If I find any
thing serious will let you know. :)

Here is some info… There is a solution posted here… Don't know
if it's legit or not… judge for yourself. http://forums.anvisoft.com/viewtopic-45-28759-0.html

Bing.vc is classified as a browser hijacker virus which usually promoted via free downloads. Bing.vc seems like it is a genuine and really helpful search provider for it provides multiple search services, such as web, images, videos. However it is potentially unwanted. Bing.vc usually comes into users computer bundled with third parties. Bing.vc can corrupts all the most common used browsers like Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Internet Explorer.

Once installed You may find that your browser home page and default search engine are changed to Bing.vc without your consent and knowledge. Bing.vc is an ads-supported search engine and you can not get reliable search results from this domain because the search results from Bing.vc are filled with advertisements and sponsored links.

You may receive many annoying pop up advertisements and when you search for something you might be redirected to some other unknown website which may contains malicious programs. You may find that when you use this fake search engine you will be redirected to some other unknown site where ads and sponsored links occupied the results page.

On the other hand, browser hijackers like this Bing.vc is capable of using cookies to collect users online traces or personal information for unethical marketing. You are nor recommended to use Bing.vc and keep it on your computer.

Makes me want to stay away from Bing. Does MS need the business so bad that they allow annoying junk like this to be associated with their name? Bill Gates where are you?

NWTDennis… It appears, from what I read, They continue to put out defective products. The new windows 10 has issues. It is recommended that if you have not upgraded to 10, don't. They are scurrying around trying to create the fixes… there are many issues... it is a problem with multiple fixes needed. They have released some fixes… time will tell if the fixes are adequate.

They must be too big to fail. The last windows upgrade that worked reasonably well was windows 7. Vista and windows 8 were terrible. I'm staying with windows 7 till at least 2020 when MS says they will stop support.

It is a nasty virus going around.....I would suggest posting this in a few areas within the site....and I will also see if can get any of our professional people to be of assistance.....

I'm not sure on how to fix it but i would love to learn the answer. If i use chrome i get pop-ups very annoying then i see links on my website i didn't put there. I'm thinking of deleting chrome and reinstalling to see if that fixes it ill let you know how it works.I do have firefox to fall back on.
