Some of the Techy Stuff
Hello Everyone, I thought I’d touch base and let you know what I've been up to and share a few things. I have been here for almost a month. Most of my efforts in the last week or so have been on WordPress. Specifically design, theme customization, plug-ins, content, and SEO. Now that I type that out, I think that covers what we are all here to learn and improve on. Besides learning all these new skills I have read a lot of great success stories and fantastic inspirational content.
I would like to share some links that I hope will somewhat fast track some of you through the technical stuff. There are some great teachers in our community. Keep it up everyone!!
I have yet to find some real good training on WordPress theme customization and find the most flexible themes, but I’m sure there is some good material out there and I will keep searching. On a side note, it is easy to get side tracked when looking for something because I keep finding good discussions on other stuff that I MUST READ. Here are the links:
James recently put this one out there. It is great to help put in your ads onto your site so they look good: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/sipmle-steps-to-improve-your-site-appearance
Mark has a great detailed guide to widgets here: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/using-widgets-in-wordpress/4-the-text-widget-adding-images-to-the-sidebar
Craig did a great job here demonstrating how to set up the website monitoring tools https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/how-to-set-up-google-authorship-verify-with-webmaster-tools-google-analytics/a_aid/3846de59
Tommy really knows his stuff when it comes to getting your site posts SOE ready: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/rich-snippet-meta-discription
Kyle’s demonstration on backing up and restoring your site is priceless: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/how-to-back-up-your-wordpress-site-using-tools-export/a_aid/e5698db5
I am about to delve into getting a site map set up for the Google Bots. I haven’t gone through this yet but I’m sure it will be good so I will include it: http://fulltimejobfromhome.com/how-to-create-a-sitemap-for-a-wordpress-blog
If you want some great inspiration and philosophical material you can visit Anthony’s blogs. This is one he just put out there for us: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/myjobkiller/blog/don-t-mistake-the-fruit-for-the-root
There are tons of great inspirational blogs in the community to read when you need a lift.
Note that the above training I mention are the ones that really hit home for me and are more on the technical side. There is a lot more out there that will work for you too.
As far a writing content …. Well hmmm. I am not a magician when it comes to putting words together like a lot of you creative writers out there. That is likely my weakest link. However, I did write a lot of user documentation during my IT career so I do have a pretty good handle on technical writing so that is where I am going to concentrate. I will continue pursue the niches where I can write reviews and “explain stuff”.
Well off I go to build a site map. Thanks for listening. Keep up the good work and I’ll be seeing you all around the community of WAU.
