The Frustration of Waiting for Success!

So here's the thing.... I am a very hard worker. I am motivated and dedicated. One thing I am NOT is patient!

I also know that it takes time to build an online business and to start earning an income.

Yesterday in live chat there was a lady that said she is getting frustrated because she hasn't made any sales from Amazon and she has been working so hard!

I checked her profile and she started with WA on 27 January 2016..... oh man did I feel for her. I know what she feels like.

Fortunately for me I have been working online for 4 years so I know the truth.

There is no secret that can make you rich over night. I'm so sorry but it doesn't exist.

All those incredible "opportunities" you find online, yes you know which ones... the flashy lights, the promises of making $1000 a day by tomorrow.... yes on autopilot while you sleep.

No need to do anything and you will be a millionaire, yeah in a week!

A common question I see here and in live chat is WHEN will you start making money.

And the answer is NOT what you want to hear... it is how long is a piece of string. Yes I can literally see you all groaning at hearing that. How typical, that says nothing does it?

So why does it take so much time to make money online?

You don't build your website and suddenly it is there in full view of everyone that you want to reach, oh no not by a long shot!

It takes time to build website trust, it also takes time to build yourself a name out there that people trust. So perhaps Google trusts your website, great! BUT do your readers trust you? If you just have 2 pages and 2 posts that is not giving your readers much of a chance to get to know you right?

It's also not giving them much content to read through either.

Each and every business is different as is each business owner.

So what is your niche, how profitable is it and how much interest is there in what you are doing?

Yes there are nearly 3 billion people online worldwide but the fact is that some niches will just be more profitable than others. I am sure you can earn money in any niche, but this question is about when will you start earning...

Then there is YOU. There are the obvious factors of how much do you already know about working online? How much time and energy do you put into training and then implementing what you have learned?

How easy do you find it to write? How long does it take you to write a post?

How much do you know about SEO and writing for the search engines? How much do you know about publishing content that ranks?

On average it takes me about 3 - 5 hours to write a good post. This includes researching my content, writing my content, getting my images ready and adding to my content, searching for a Youtube video to embed in it, publishing my content, sharing it to social networks, getting a comment or 2 on WA and then of course submitting it to Google Webmaster Tools.

So for one piece of content from start to finish it can take me 5 hours. The nice side of this is that although it is a lot of time, most of my content ranks quickly and ranks well.

So I know lots of other people manage to publish content from start to finish in about an hour... well that's not me!

I also know there are some people here that take a week plus to write one post! Not because they are stupid but for other reasons... maybe lack of time. Not everyone has 5 hours straight to dedicate to a post, they work or study so have to do a bit and then come back to it.

Other people are not English and take extra time to get their content written and check their spelling and grammar.

Ok so WHEN will you be earning money online?

Taking all the above factors into account and remembering that there is NO hard and fast rule here... just reset your expectations.

And head on over to my website and grab my free eBook that might help you a bit with this!

I would say expect to not earn anything at all for the first 4 - 6 months. After about 6 months you should start seeing some sales coming in. BUT once again don't set your sights on being rich by 6 months... I am talking about one or two sales here!

From 6 months - 1 year you can expect your business to steadily grow so you are at least earning some extra income that will make a difference to your life.

Don't expect to earn a full time income before one year and you won't be disappointed.

What separates the people that succeed and the people that fail?

This is quite simple, if you give up along the way you won't succeed will you?

Building an online business takes time and dedication, if you are not prepared to work really hard for at least one year at it without making a decent income from it then you will most likely fail.

So my message for today is.... don't quit before the miracle happens!

PS I am 7 months in and have just earned my 2nd income from my new website..... right on target!

What are your frustrations, how long have you been working at your online business?

How can anyone ever have any frustrations reading this post Lynne ? I have given myself 2 years before I even get a sniff, it is the training and the understanding of said training that is important to me and I believe I am getting a great deal from Kyle & Carson, you are correct that this is not an overnight get rich quick scheme in fact I have been taken in by lots of scammers that have taken my money and I was chasing more lost money and there comes a time when you have to have a word with yourself and apply the hand brake. Earning good money is a slow process that takes in a lot of learning a great attitude and a mindset of never giving up no matter how rocky the road gets and with WA you have an opportunity of a lifetime but you have got to put the work in and I suppose have some luck along the way but most of us make our own luck by working hard.

Gary then I look forward to seeing your success posts in the future because they are coming :)

What so many people fail to see is that this is a business, just like any other. If you decided to launch an offline business how long do you think it will take to make money? And how much time, money and effort will you need to put into it?

For some reason if you talk about an online business people seem to think there is some fairy running around with a magic wand granting people their wishes of riches overnight!

Hi Lynne, thank you for sharing and for your insights about earning money online. I have one question for you. Is this a rule of thumb that earning money online starts after 6 months and not one or two months? Perhaps I may have missed something. What happens after the 6th month? Is that you build trust or your website starts ranking well on google. Please clarify. Thanks again for sharing this helpful information.

LOL it is NOT a rule, it just seems to be around the time when people start making their first sales. I've seen some people here, complete newbies too make a sale within a few days. There are other people that have not made one sale and they have been working hard at it for a year.

There are loads of variables that come into this equation, but yes time = trust and authority.... plus all that time learning means the content will be more quality over time...

Thanks for clarifying. It makes sense. It sounds like a learning by doing and becoming better in the process. Thanks again for sharing.

Exactly! Absolutely, everything you do is building your business, including yourself and your skills :)

Hi Lynne,
I know exactly what you are saying and it is so true. I don't have any "drop dead" time where if I don't earn money by a certain date I will quit this work. I am so determined to build a really successfull busiiness with several on going income streams. I am really stuck right now because I know that my website here in WA is a very big priority along with the training. However at the same time I have a live website and discovered some of my products are discontinued and/or out of stock also I have another site that is a blog the has back links back to the healthydogsupply.com that will be no good when I remove the product so I have to fix all of that plus add something to proote my nw affiliate accounts and I haven't don'e that yet. I can't just slam a couple of links on there without writing something, right? Anyway I am not sure whether to just focus on fixing the production site first and then go back and focus completely on the WA site here? Any suggestions? I wm kind of stuck because I just can't decide which I should focus my attention on. Sorry this turned out so long!

I really appreciate your help so much!!
Barbara

Oh my, it sound like you have a lot on your plate. I have that problem sometimes too what with running 4 websites.

I find the best thing is to NOT panic and prioritize!

I think regarding the products that are discontinued you might need the advice of other members here on that one.

I did however have a similar problem where I stopped stocking an item on my product website. I decided to stop stocking my most popular product on my baby website because well it is just a pain to import it and I can earn the same amount of profit affiliating with another company... so I wrote a new post about the product, at the beginning I apologized that we no longer stock it ourselves, but if you want to buy it click here (affiliate link of course).

Now the big problem I had is that so many websites and social networks (eg Pinterest) had linked to my actual store product... so get around that I redirected all the product links to my new post which has the new affiliate link. So if anyone clicks on the product link they will be redirected to the new post.

Maybe this will help you with coming up with a solution? It worked well for me for now. I made then temporary redirects, not permanent because I will probably do something else in the future but for now it solves all my problems and concerns.

You could maybe find some new products that are great alternatives and write a post about them and redirect all traffic there?

Hi Lynne, good post and well written. I started here late October 2015, when I started I said to myself work hard and you may see some return by April 2016, even though I have made some sales albeit not massive amounts, but enough to know and realise the stuff you are learning at WA really works - with loads of patience!

I have likened my on line website/business to re-fitting out a new store/shop, I am doing the interior design and shop fitting out the layout ready for the opening, when the traffic is starting to come through the door - create a good experience, make it easy to browse around, put up a few offers and teasers, make it enjoyable, and if I do that correctly I will keep the shoppers coming to my store for advice and also buying from me - plus keeping that bounce rate down! My bounce rate is currently around 10% so I know that what I am doing once the customer arrives is working, so I just need to work on getting the steady flow of numbers organically which I know will come with time.

If my plan of April 2016 doesn't bear fruit to what I want I will just keep plugging away because I know its just a matter of time.

Keep up the good posts Lynne. Regards, Michael

Great attitude Micheal.. everything you do now is just setting up the foundation for what is to come! If more people had your attitude there would be more successes!

Very interesting and informative ! Thanks for this Lynne. Im only 3 months in and was getting a bit anxious I was doing something wrong, Im patient, I work hard at it, I probably take about the same time to do my content, I don't get social media but I do it, I will keep going, too far in to give up and too much time spent, so I will plough on! But this post has made me more determined, just what i needed !!

Helen, if you are following the training and implementing what you have learned you are doing great!

Remember a vital part of it is also asking for support and feedback.

So if you think you are going wrong find someone here that you trust that has some experience and ask them to personally check your website.

The person that referred you should be a great person to ask, especially since they have an invested interest in you succeeding!

I regularly ask my referrer to just check where I am and he is awesome with help and feedback.

At 3 months you really can't be going wrong if you are learning all the time and adding new content regularly. Everything you do now is building your foundations for the future.

If you have done a post incorrectly it does not matter, this is the beautiful thing about working online, you can go back and change things once you have learned more :) Just get the content up there.

What is your website URL?

Check out this training on site feedback: I will be adding lots of training soon for social networks... just figuring out some stuff for myself :) But for now here are some great tips for Twitter: And check my other blogs, there are some posts there where you can leave your Twitter, Google Plus, Twitter and Pinterest profiles for others to follow you and you can follow people there... just to get your numbers up!

Here is some great training by Marc that will help you loads with rankings and organic traffic: Surround yourself with the winners, the people that have drive and determination and stick with them, follow them!

A great post, thanks for sharing :)

I started 3 months ago with my first WS. I got my 12 first subscribers. 2 for an free email course "Best Time of your Life" 10 from a free email course "Building a successful online business in one year". So you see, I give everybody 1 year too:-) Today I decided to prepare my first webinar. At the end of the webinar I'll give some good bonuses, if the viewers join WA with a yearly membership.

Great idea! That is also essential.. giving your readers something f great value :)

Ha ha - laughing at those who think they have worked hard for a whole WEEK lmao. And it isn't just that ONE you read about! I love hearing about people who drank the "get rich quick" kool-aid! It's that same type who fall for scams like Empower Network. THOUSANDS have fallen for that "homeless and combless to living on the beaches of Costa Rica" crap! I could go on but I can hear y'all snoring lmao. Anyway ... good article - right on!

Oh yes, those videos make me sick! It is the same rubbish over and over again, and people are falling for it.

So blunt honesty! And thanks for that. One thing i learned when i joined WA was that its not a GRQ(Get Rich Quick) Platform and i wasnt suprised that i went into real training for the first time to build websites, understand SEOs and the like.
Am loving it and its keeping me busy. While surely i would like to start earning as soon as [possible, certainly, theres is too much ground work to be done here.

Patience, patience patience is the word and hardwork as we learn to be patient.

Lovely to know that you are prepared to go the distance!

I really like your post, there's such a flashy misconception about "online success". However, as we become more seasoned, we develop an understanding, of what online success does indeed entail. :)
Thanks for posting Lynne
You Rock
:)
Joseph

Hi Joseph

Yes I know exactly what you mean, it is all those scams I think putting rubbish into people's minds!
