I've had a rainbow Monday
Hi, Everyone.
It's been a super long time since I've posted anything here. I had an unusual day today, so I thought I'd let you know what happened and give you a giggle along the way too.
I've been putting off dying my hair for several months now. Well, to be perfectly honest the last time I did it was the week before Thanksgiving. Then it was a bright red, all over and I loved it.
Now it's February 1st and my hair has faded out to look absolutely terrible. It has faded to be very light orange in places with spots of dark red. I had light orange bangs with 2 dark red spots at my temples and 2 dark red spots at my neckline. Needless to say I looked like a clown.
I couldn't stand it any longer so I decided to re-dye it. Of course, I first had to take out the color that was left behind. So I bought some color oops and divided it in half, seeing as my hair is short I didn't figure I would need the whole bottle.
I applied the color oops to my dark red spots first, so it could have some extra time to do its thing. Then I applied it to the rest of my hair and waited the allotted time. When I got in the shower to rinse it out I didn't see any color coming off my hair. Ahhh! "It's not working!" so I thought.
I dried off and looked in the mirror. It had worked, but not as well as I was hoping. Now my hair was a very light orange with med red spots. Heavy sigh! This means I have to go through the whole process yet again. Grumble.
So I replied the last of the color oops again, just as I had done the last time. I was sure hoping it worked this time, seeing as I didn't have any more color oops to use. After waiting the allotted amount of time I rinsed it out, And again I didn't see any color coming out of my hair. I dried and looked in the mirror. Now, my hair is a light straw color with medium pink spots. Grumble, and a few heavy sighs.
At this point, I'm staring at my reflection and sticking out my lower lip a mile and a half. I've just spent the last two hours on this process and it doesn't look that much better. I stood there for the longest time trying to figure out what I was going to do to look even semi normal. Well, I HAD to re-dye it. That was for sure! I couldn't keep it like this.
Now my dilemma was, should I go with a normal color, or the red again? I had a copper brown color, but I loved my bright red hair from Thanksgiving. I thought it made me stand out and I loved being a redhead. So I decided to go with the red color again.
I got out my bottle of SPLAT Berry Red from before and found that I only had an eighth of a bottle left. That wasn't going to do it, so I dug around until I found another bottle of color. But it wasn't my normal brand. This one was from KISS, it was called RED STORM.
I figured it couldn't be that different of a color, so I got bold and poured the rest of my Berry Red into the Red Storm bottle and shook it like crazy. I applied it to my hair and waited. While it was wet it appeared a very dark burgundy maroon color.
My husband came in while I was waiting for the color to set into my hair. He took one look at me and said, "Wow! That's a very dark color. Is it going to look like that when you're finished?" I reassured him that it wasn't going to look that dark at all. I told him it would look completely different.
Now it was time to do the final rinse, shampoo and rinse again. As I was rinsing my hair a very dark Pink was running down the drain. As I rinsed out the shampoo it turned a very Bright florescent pink. Now as I did the final rinse the water was a medium baby pink. I was expecting to see a pink color go down the drain, so I wasn't surprised to see this. I was however surprised to see it change colors so many times. But no matter, it was doing the right thing. Or so I thought.
I dried off and looked in the mirror, only to have my mouth drop to the floor. Imagine my surprise when I saw my Dark PURPLE hair. I got out my blow drier and went to work. After it was totally dry it was a Medium PINK PURPLE color.
Well, it wasn't what I was expecting that's for freaking sure, but it was a fun color that I have never had before. I bravely went out to show my husband.
"Well, what do you think?" I asked.
He looked up from his computer and his eyes got very large and his mouth dropped open a bit. I smiled.
"Well, you're right it does look completely different. That's going to take some time to get used to." he said. "I wonder if it will grow in the dark?" He giggled.
"You'll have to let me know." I said.
The next day, (today) he hasn't complained to me about keeping him up with my hair color, so I guess it doesn't glow in the dark. Bummer that would have been really cool. Oh well, He doesn't need a night light anyways.
I hope you got a giggle from my story and I hope it made you smile. I know it makes my husband smile everytime he looks at me, and me too when I look into the mirror. Who knows it just might grow on me and I might keep it this color.
Thanks for reading all the way to the end of this rainbow Monday story.

P.S.
The Purple color at the right side of the banner above is the same color as my hair.

I was a hair dresser at one time and loved to play so when I was married, my husband never knew what to expect when he came home. Yet, I never in my wildest dreams thought about purple or red, red hair or any of the colors I see now. I don't think I could pull them off. You seem to be able to so whatever you like and your husband doesn't mind is great!!!! Have fun.

Well, I don't really give him a choice in the matter. I just do it. I do what I want with my hair and clothes. He also does the same. It works for us.
Good Morning Lynne,
Dear me! I know what you have experienced as I had similar things happen to my hair, but the colors were different. When one is younger, one likes to experiment now and then.
Some years ago, I decided I did not wish to paint the roots anymore. I wanted to go natural. I went to the hairdresser and explained I wanted all grey so the growing out process would not be so notable.
I came out a bright carrot color and could not change that whatever I tried. Now, I look normal with a nice silver grey mixed with dark and most people say it suits me and that is that.
Greetings from the south of Spain,
Taetske
It's not only the younger crowd that likes to experiment. I'm 66 and love bold colors in my hair. You only live once, so we should enjoy the little things while we can.
Well, I am 70 now, so no more experimenting with my hair.
That does not mean I will not experiment with other things.
I now have the valid excuse. Hey, at my age I do what I want.
All the best, Taetske
Oh my you do have an interesting hair color. So I wonder what it color it will grow out to be.
I have always been fearful of dying mine in case I didn't like the color.
What an interesting day you have had.
Hope tomorrow is quiet colorless day for you.
Thanks for the quiet wishes and the comment.
I can understand how you feel, but I believe it's only hair have fun with it.

Ah Lynn, the trials & tribulations you experienced from a bottle or two.
I can imagine your frustration after several attempts to recover the dark red you had before.
At least your post as you wrote it in a fun way & gave us a laugh, as you tried to redeem your color.
Maybe a repeat of the color change or just let it grown out until next time. LOL
Denis
Thanks, Denis for your comment.
I wrote it as I would tell the story if you were sitting here with me. I'm glad you found it amusing, I meant it to be that way.
You'll find life to be very difficult if you can't laugh at yourself every now and then.
