Migraines and a different perspective on blogspam
My head felt a bit like this yesterday - I woke up with a migraine that stayed with me for most of the day, and on top of the migraine, I also had a blogspam comment on my 7 week old blog. While I don't experience the visual effects of migraine like some people do, I get super acute hearing and a very strong sense of smell instead which can be also be inconvenient. I end up really dopey and usually hurt myself by doing something incredibly dumb. Yesterday I tripped over the tea trolley which was exactly where I'd put it and punched the dining table trying to catch myself... this isn't too bad on my scale of migraine dumb injuries!
Advantages to an enforced day off
I decided to try not to stress about it, and enjoy a day off (as much as possible) while avoiding directly sunlight, loud noises and strong smells! Fortunately for me the lack of visual effects with my migraines mean I can read and watch videos, so while I didn't write or do any work in the garden, I did do a bit of research and some more niche defining activities.
I considered buying a (fairly) expensive coaching / consulting development course, but due to knowing the migraine impaired decision-making I managed to convince myself to reconsider when the migraine was gone... phew! Reflecting on my notes now, I've already got most of the value from the free webinar - the expanded elements of the course are things that I know or are available here.
It's easy to forget sometimes how much value is actually here on the Wealthy Affiliate platform, especially when you're head down and trying to create the valuable content. I'm going to spend today consolidating the next recorded webinars and elements of training that I need to refresh on, and add them to my blogging plans.
A positive end to the day... Blogspam!
I was cursing and spluttering when I took a quick look at the Wordpress admin page on my newest blog (it's only 7 weeks old), there was a million-mile-long comment - obviously had to be spam. Sure enough, it was completely unrelated to my blog or the comment to which it was attached and included links. I immediately got grumpy and deleted it.
But hold on - one of the advantages of migraines, they do occasionally help you see things in a different light. Now, I'm an analyst - if anyone is familiar with the Insights Group personality and leadership types I'm predominantly Blue / Red at work and Red / Blue at home which means in a nutshell that I want it done right (according to the data) and done right now!

So, as an impatient analyst as you might guess my first stop every morning is Google Analytics (and Pinterest Analytics) to make sure my overall trends are upward. Even I appreciate that I'm going to get next to no value out of the numbers at this point other than making sure my pages have been crawled and aren't throwing out huge numbers of errors.
But my site can't get spammed if it can't be found... so really, all that spluttering and cursing was actually uncalled-for - because what this blogspam (and unsolicited emails) really tell me is that people are starting to slowly find my blog. It's just another (positive) indicator that the training works, and I'm doing something right.
Who'd've thought that spam can be positive!

Very positive post, Lisa! You chose to look at the glass as half full rather than half empty! Well done, my friend! Hopefully those headaches ease up!
Have a safe and productive weekend!
Jeff
It is always good to have a day off when things are not flowing as usual. It is good you had positive notes to share.
I don't miss my migraines. Weekly or more often for 12 years. Mine were in no doubt caused by the silver colored fillings in my teeth which back then contained mercury. That was pretty stupid.
Fillings removed. Migraines stopped immediately. YAY!
I hope you can find some relief.
Blessings, Peace & Love

Hi Mel,
Thanks for that, I'm glad you found the cause of yours!
I don't suffer with them very often, but when I do they are often stress triggered (which I think this one was). Back to regular exercise and meditation to keep them in check!
Best wishes on your success too!
Lisa
Mine were also stress triggered, but stress has no effect any more at all. It was an interesting experience as I thought I would have them forever.

Hi Lisa
I have a long career of migraine suffering, decades and decades. I understand the trap you mention - making decisions when you have a migraine. You are also right that it is so easy to get drawn to shiny new objects and forget the vast resources available on WA. Congrats on your site being found!
Cheers
Andy
Thanks, Andy, it was a near miss I have to say! Usually, my poor decision making results in some form of injury - I almost lost a fingernail the last time after carefully not using power tools to help put up a fence. I just absently traped my finger between two heavy objects and pushed to try and make them sit flush - not my finest hour!
The migraine is also a fine excuse as to why my lawn still needs to be mowed :-P
