How to Change Outlook Mailbox from Imap to POP3
I made the mistake of making my email box type IMAP instead of POP3 and I kept getting an error message from the server. I think that our servers don't like allowing outside email programs controlling the file structure so after viewing a tutorial from MarionBlack about how to setup my email account on Outlook. I realized that I had used IMAP and not POP3.
First off Thank You Marion for doing your training it was very helpful.
So I changed my email box type from IMAP to POP3 but I had to make a new mailbox to do this. Outlook wouldn't let me change the type of the one I created. So to do this I did the following:
1. Created a new email account exactly as MarionBlack shows in her training. So now I had two mailboxes in outlook - the first one is IMAP the second is POP3. They will look exactly the same so be careful in the next step and delete the right one.
2. choose the original IMAP email box and right click on it. A pop up menu will show a delete option. Click on the delete option. A safety pop up will happen that wants you to verify the deletion because you will lose the offline cache file outlook created.
WARNING: If your pop up message does not say "offline cache file" or something like this, you are deleting the POP3 account, STOP and go back and make sure you choose the POP3 Account.
Confirm the deletion of the account heeding the Warning above.
You have successfully converted from IMAP to POP3 and the error messages should stop coming in.
Hope this helps. Please leave comments.

I have stopped using POP3 email because it prevents me from keeping my email synced, updated, and accessible from my computer, iPhone, and iPad.
The IMAP settings work fine on all clients except Outlook 2016 where you get an annoying error message, but the email works fine even with the error message.
that was my thinking too but getting that message every 10 minutes is a pain. Can someone in tech support for the server fix this? I too would rather use IMAP but I hate getting that message on my computer all day long
I just get the message once when I open outlook.
I can understand you being annoyed.
Hopefully, SiteSupport can help? (I have not tried asking them yet)
I did the exact same thing for the exact same reason. I needed my emails synced across my devices, so I set up IMAP. I only get the annoying pop up once as well (the FAM/GAMIN one). I googled my butt off and they told me it was a server problem. I asked site support and they said it was an outlook issue. The pop up only happens on one of my devices (all others don't have the pop up) and as frustrating as it is, one click and it's over.
It is a server issue, but Outlook is the only email client that finds it worthwhile to produce an error message. Other clients ignore it.
Ha!
