Why Create A Profile Within WA - Even As A Free Starter?

I remember being a free starter within Wealthy Affiliate, it was rather scary to post a picture of myself within a community where I knew no-one. I didn't even know if I could trust the platform! Let's face it, there are so many online scams out there - anything was possible! Then I got to thinking ... I haven't shared any bank or card details here ... what is the worst that could happen? So I uploaded a fairly safe image (a side profile pic) and typed a few words about who I am. Then my journey began and in quick time I understood why it is important to create a profile within WA - even as a free starter.

What Is There To Be Afraid Of?

Fear of the unknown can be paralyzing, in fact, it can completely immobilize some so let's start here ...

"What Is There To Be Afraid Of?" is a valid question for anyone who may have faced bullying, discrimination or ridicule in their life (and that is pretty much 100% of us).

  • Fear of ridicule - one phrase I often see within WA is "there is no such thing as a stupid question". I am not crazy about the word stupid, but it does the job in this context. There really is no question you can ask within WA that would be considered a bad or silly question. Why? Because we are all here to learn and build our online businesses. We all started in that place of knowing nothing, or very little at all.
  • Fear of bias - the community at WA is an international one and consists of men and women from different walks of life The online business world has space for every single one of us.
  • The differences between us are wide and varied, and the WA platform is a level playing field for every member. Here are some differences you can expect (I am sure you will find yourself fitting right in) :
    1. a wide range of ages, from teens to very mature
    2. different persuasions & genders
    3. different nationalities, Canadian, American, African, Asian, Australian, New Zealanders, British, European, Indian and more
    4. different races, yip - every race you can think of
    5. different languages, the WA platform is an English platform but we have many members whose first language is not English
    6. different cultures, as many nationalities as there are with WA, the same goes with cultures
    7. different religions, probably every religion you can think of!
  • Fear of failure - this really is an "inside out job". Meaning that we all experience fear of failure and we have to find it within ourselves to tackle this challenge. Even the most successful online entrepreneurs within WA have experienced fear of failure (they probably still do, just on another level). Being a part of the WA community allows us the opportunity to write blogs (like this one), ask questions within the Help Center (the last tab underneath our profile pictures), and even private message other members and request help. There are resources available to all of us within WA.
  • Fear of being spammed or conned by fellow members - Wealthy Affiliate has very strict rules around how the community members conduct themselves, here is an article written by Kyle, Spam Is A No No! There will always be individuals who chance their luck, we have access to protection from this too. Familiarize yourself with the rules and report any members who contravene the rules, no need to even confront them yourself.

The thing that holds us together is

our common goals of

creating successful online businesses.

What Not To Be Afraid Of

Equal Playing Field - Within WA everyone is equal.

There are no members superior to others ... we are all in this together, working on our own businesses. Paying it forward where and when we can.

Truly, you can be a successful whether you are male, female, black, white, brown, pink, yellow; young, middle-aged, or a Queenager ... what would the male version of Queenager be?

Christian, Jewish, Mormon, Hindu, Muslim, Atheist ... none of that matters when it comes to your potential to create a successful online business.

Your education level makes no difference. Degreed? Good for you. Didn't finish high school? Good for you too! The opportunity is the same for everyone!

Fat, thin, athletic, non-athlete, extreme sports' person? It's all the same in the online business world!

Wealthy Affiliate online business owners are professional, eager to assist one another and very accepting of each other. (We've had the occasional member who does not fit this criteria, they shape up pretty quick when they see the advantages though).

Human Connection

Here is the ultimate answer to why we should create a profile with WA - in just two words - Human Connection!

My experience has been that people within Wealthy Affiliate welcomed me with open arms! Actually, that started before I even posted a pic. The increase was evident with a profile picture though.

It was incredible, so many people greeting me and wishing me everything of the best with my online business journey. Complete strangers, taking the time to say hi, wish me success and even offer me help!

I will even go as far as to say that I built relationships with people from all over the world, in different times zone, quicker than I ever have in the corporate arena!

The Wealthy Affiliate members not only welcomed me but they took the time to get to know me, ask questions about where I come from, who I am.

The knowledge shared so patiently with me was completely mind-blowing too! I have never learned so much in such a short period of time AND with so much support!

We never stop learning, there is always something new to learn from someone in the WA community. What an incredible place this is!

Crowd Cheering

We've probably all heard of crowd funding, maybe I am coining a new phrase here, maybe not. In WA we have this magical thing I liked to call "crowd cheering".

The encouragement I have received within this amazing platform really has made me brave! I have written more than 100 blogs within WA and even more than that on my websites!

Had I been working in isolation, there is no doubt in my mind that this would have taken me much, much longer.

The support from fellow members really is the wind beneath my sails ... and I believe I speak for many members when I say that!

Of course, we have to be self-motivated and willing to work hard on our businesses, but when we hit a challenge, this community rallies around us and offers support.

An example of this was when I had eye surgery, have a look at the responses to just one of my blogs about it ... WA community members truly are awesome!

You Have Nothing To Lose ... & Everything To Gain!

So if you are new, here is a message for you ... go on then, upload a profile pic (even if it's one of your furbaby or a flower) and write a little about who you are.

Can't wait to learn more about you!

Come on Awesome WAers - what do you have to say on this topic, drop me a comment below and share your thoughts and experiences too.

Blessings as always

I have to agree with everything that you have said here.
Not a day goes by that I am not amazed by this community of ours
So many generous people offering help, advice and encouragement.

Thank you for being a part of this and showing the newer members what advantages are available when they get involved.

Best wishes and stay safe.
Gaz

Hi Gaz
It is amazing, we are so fortunate to be here!
Thank you too for taking the time to read and share here, I appreciate it big time. One of the reasons I wrote this article is to encourage new members to become involved. I have a few referrals who haven't (yet) and I so want them to see the magic we all enjoy here.

I too had the same misgivings about posting a profile pic when I first joined Louise. I went with what I call my logo. A few days later, I changed it to the the pic I've had since then. Why? If I were a brick and motor, people would come into my store and see me, not a logo. And, I got to thinking, this ugly mug is probably plastered all over the internet along with countless millions. I had to get over the fear of being "out there". Good post today.

Greg

Hi Greg
Your response is very funny, gave me a good giggle - thank you for that :-)
Glad you appreciated this post, thank you so much.

Glad I was able to bring a little smile your way

Louise, this is a beautiful post. I am with you 100%. I was nervous at first of placing a photo, in the end I decided to take the plunge, and since then I have edited my profile. This is my business and I want it to grow. And the community here is awesome. Actually I prefer the name WAmily.

Have a great day.

Trevor

Hi Trevor
Thank you so much, am so glad you could identify. As you say, this is your business and you want it to grow - the best way to do that is to put ourselves ALL IN.
I like WAmily too, gonna use that in the future.
I really appreciate the time you have taken to read and share, thank you again.
Blessings always
Louise

Have a lovely day, WAmily member.

People either have low self esteem. Or they do not trust WA enough yet.

When that happens the chances are they will not hang on long enough to build an affiliate marketing business.

In that way I look at this gate as a filter.

I love your analysis of the reasons why people do not complete their profile.

Cheers.

Edwin

Thank you so much, Edwin.
Yeah, that is my fear too - and they miss out big time!
Hopefully, this blog will encourage new starters to be brave & share within the community. WA is a very special place.
Blessings
Louise
