Putting In The Hours. But Is That Normal?

I've been trying really hard to make a post every day, or at least every other day, but I find myself in the same situation each time I try.

I never finish a post in time.

Some times I write out a post in an hour. Sometimes I can do it wam-bam-thank-you-mam style in 30 minutes. But the majority of my posts take me a long time. Like sometimes an entire 8-hour day.

Granted sometimes I end up writing about something, but I keep having another topic pop up in my mind so I end up switching. And there have been times I'm not feeling so good about a post, and when I go back to read it I end up wondering what the hell I was thinking by considering publishing such crappy work. Then I end up starting all over again on some other topic I feel like writing about more.

Ok...ok...so sometimes I might get a liiittttllle distracted by picking out the perfect picture to accent a certain point in the post, but it's not like I go on a 2-hour picture hunt and sometimes end up coming up with an idea for a picture and set it up to take it and then finally get it on my computer and placing it perfectly in the post or anything.

That's a lie. I do that.

But not all the time, just like maybe 40% of the time. But sometimes I just write a post and without any distractions of short photo sessions or extended text message conversations or Instagram browsing, and it still takes me like...6 hours.

Here's my question: Is this normal?!?!?!

And this doesn't include the editing after it's fully written a few hours later or the necessary doggy walks with my Tori-butt; however, this does include any quick research or confirmation of knowledge I remember from school or practice that I'm putting into a post.

Am I putting way too much time into some posts? Is there a time limit I should sort of give myself to finish a post in? Am I maybe writing too long of blog posts? That's my other wonder...if my posts are too long. Sometimes my topics require a lot of information to be provided that I see missing in a lot of other blog posts on the same topic and next thing you know I have a pretty lengthy post. ....Just like this one. Hmmm....

You are absolutely correct!!!!

1

How long each person takes on a post is HIGHLY individual, and varies with writing skill, interest in the subject matter, amount of research required, etc. Don't beat yourself up over it.

Good to know! I think I get so determined to make sure there are no errors, awkward wording, and perfect transitions into each subtopic that I just end up re-reading and re-writing a lot of times. Thanks for the support!
